Hey everyone...
It was great spending time with all of you on Friday and Saturday. I hope you were all challenged and learned a lot from our time together. I'd like you to do a couple things week...
1) In your folder that you got, there was a survey behind your notes pages. If you can take a couple minutes and fill it out and turn it into a staff member next Sunday, that'd be really helpful.
2) Share a little bit at the beginning of your post about what you learned and how it affected you. Also, how do you think it could apply to our trip?
3) Share some of what you learned with someone that's not going on the trip...a parent, friend, sibling, whoever...
4) This week's chapter...Zach does a really good job in this chapter of presenting leadership in a way that everyone can participate in. A lot of times when we think of leaders, we think you have to be talkative and enjoy being up front and the center of attention, but really you can lead no matter what your personality it. It's just how you lead that might be different. Check out the Helen Keller quote at the beginning of the chapter...it's pretty cool!
One way to learn how to be a good leader is to look at people you like to follow. Think about someone you admire as a good leader. What makes them such a good leader? How can you reflect their leadership in your life?
Don't forget to read & answer Zach's questions at the end of the chapter. He's got some great ones!
(by the way...1) make sure to include some combo of your first & last name/initial, because some of you have the same name & I don't know who posted and who didn't. 2)some of you are falling behind on your posts...don't wait...catch up now!)

I learned how hard it was to be homeless and how hard it was for kids in poor countries to have to carry water for drinking. I am glad I don't have to live in either of these situations. The people we work with on the missions trip will not have the nice luxuries we're used to - I'll need to accept their situation and help them however I can.
I admire "Pops" (my grandpa) as a leader. He heads up a cement company that he started himself. He's a good leader because even tho he can be funny at times, when he has to get the job done he does and he's very serious about it. I could reflect his ways by remembering that hard work and laughter are both needed whenever I would be in a position of leadership.
Hi! I am so glad we had that overnighter. i really haven't had that much fun in a very long time and I really need it. And I met lots of totally cool people and learned a lot!
One of the thing I learned is how selfish we as Americans are! I already knew we were selfish but wow! We had a joke going around that the reason other countries don't like the US is because they get Klondike bars [since the US table got Klondike bars, obviously] but I think there is actually more truth to that joke than anyone realized. We have all this really nice stuff that other countries don't have, and we take it for granted. I don't even like Klondike bars but I was sitting over at the China table with rice and strange little rice crackers craving a Klondike bar! I'm sure other countries look at us and wonder why we are so selfish and take what we have for granted.
Someone I admire as a leader is Tracy Coblentz, who leads the small group I'm in on Sundays. She's so much fun to talk to and she makes learning fun and she always does whatever she can to help us understand what were talking about. I can reflect her leadership by trying my best to help my non-Christian friends understand everything i know about God and Jesus and try to make it fun for them like Tracy does, unlike my 4th grade Sunday school teacher [I fell asleep multiple times in there...oppsy!!!!! =] ]
Share a little bit at the beginning of your post about what you learned and how it affected you. Also, how do you think it could apply to our trip?
I learned that Americans only make up a small portion of the world. I didn’t know that we were the smallest and wealthiest country in the world. It does kind of feel bad to be blessed so much. This could apply to our trip by helping the people in our country so that they can help other countries.
Share some of what you learned with someone that's not going on the trip...a parent, friend, sibling, whoever...
I have one very wealthy friend. I will not share her name, but she taught me something about being blessed. The girl I am talking about has many things in her house that would make any person jealous. I mean, she has an air hockey table, an old-school Pac-Man arcade game, a ping pong table, and a large plasma screen TV in her basement. That doesn’t even begin to explain what her family puts upstairs or on the second floor. I mean, she’s got a regular plasma screen in her room! She just recently got a new puppy, and a new kitten to go with her old cat. What I do notice, when I go over to her house, is that she never has time to play with anything but her new pets anymore. Pets do require a lot of attention. Especially young ones. (like she has) This girl is not ashamed of being blessed at all. I’m happy for her. I bet she’s happy for herself. Sometimes I sit back and say to myself, “I sure am glad that I’m not her.” It would really stink to live in that house because none of those things make me, or that girl happy. I can tell. She is always complaining that she has nothing to do. After I remind her of how much stuff she has, she always tells me that she never has anyone to play with. It can never be items that make you happy, only good company will.
What makes them such a good leader? How can you reflect their leadership in your life?
A good leader at our school is Kendal Diver. She lead our school through the entire 8th grade as our class president. She is kind to every person that she meets even if they make her feel sad or angry. Kendal is the kind of person that would always know what to do during a major time of panic. She is able to make her friends laugh when they are down and she would do anything to help them. I think Kendal’s ability to start good conversations and her outgoing personality makes her a great leader. Her kindness has spread to everyone through out this school year. Kendal has truly brought our 2012 class together and made our 8th grade school year the best that it could have been.
Last weekend was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! and i learned that no matter what the weather is you have to stay out because you have no place to go!:( And i really enjoyed the food because you got an idea about what those people got to eat!! :)
i admire my parents, eric hays ( and the other people at youth group), and as some one i haven't met winston churchill. because they are hard working and stand up for what they think is right whether people think it is right or not!
I hope i can reflect their influence in my life by not really caring about what other people care about my decisions as long as i think they are right!

The overnighter was awesome!!! I was joking with my family how i was probably one of the first person to know it rained!!!!
I admire my best friend Corry.
She just graduated from high school. She really smart and she know what she wants to do with her life. She helped me get through tough times. She always knows how to make me laugh. She also acts like my sister. I don't have a sister but i hang around with her a lot it feels like she's my sibling. Corry is also a great leader. She sets good examples for others. Another person I admire is Tracy Coblentz. She is my Sunday school leader. She is super funny but can also be serious. She also will acted crazy with me and sings Queen Songs with me! (haha)She is fun to talk to and she makes learning fun, she's not boring (so I don't fall asleep in her class).
I was reading the leadership chapter in the car with my dad and i was reading the part with Winston is sitting next to Nancy Astor. My dad told me those two hated each other. We laughed really hard when I read "Winston, if I were your wife I would put poison in your coffee." To which he replied, "Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it."
My dad and I were dying laughing!!!

Hey everybody. I don't know about you, but Friday and Saturday's experience was truthfully amazing! Getting to feel life in someone else's shoes for a change really moved me. I mean, as I was laying in the grass in a trash bag in the rain, I really thought about how some people live like this everyday. This isn't just a once in a lifetime adventure, it's the way that people in our world are really living. I felt like I really did capture the message that we don't think about how much stuff we do have, and instead of wanting more, we should want to put the people that don't have as much before us.
I admire a lot of people. And in general, I admire teachers. It doesn't have to be a school teacher, just someone who gives up their time for the benefit of others. We might all groan at the sound of school (especially since it's summer!), but I really appreciate it. We all don't realize how lucky we are to receive an education! But it's not just school. Sunday school teachers, coaches, everyday people, and God are teachers. I admire these people for there commitment, care, knowledge and patience toward others. Without teachers, our world would be nothing but a planet with a bunch of confused people.
i am so sorry that i missed the overnighter. i totally wish that i could travel back in time and go to it because it sounds like everyone had a blast and i missed out.
anyway, i think that a leader is someone you can go to and they will lead you in the right direction. they might not even have to talk to you for you to think of them as a leader. i think there are a lot of leaders in the world that help me and others through everything. i look up to a lot of people as leaders and they really do set good examples and make me realize that they're not the only leaders, everyone is a leader whether you know it or not. you may do something that you think is stupid but you still do it and someone might look up to you and think of you as a leader. you don't have to be popular, rich, muscular, or an adult to be a leader. you don't even have to work magic to be a leader. all you have to do is be yourself and love others.
What I learned was that there are many more poor and/or homeless people than I thought. Although I had a ton of fun with my friends, I learned alot about how homelesss survive, what they eat, and also what their view of us, (America) and the world are.
Because of the sleepover, we know only a fraction of what people are going through, and so we might be able to relate to them a little more, which may lead to telling them about Christ.
I think I've learned how to be a good leader mainly from Herb Owen, John Heaton, my Dad, and several others. They've taught me to face my problems head on, and if I can't deal with them by myself, to not be afraid to ask for help, to keep my cool, and how to respect others who are under my authority.
These are some characteristics I think a good leader has/should have:
1) They aren't afraid to fight for something good/right
2) They don't elevate themselves very far above others, they have respect for those under their authority
3) They know how to handle things
4) They don't give up easily
5) They aren't "torn down" easily by what other people think of them
6) They know what they're doing
TJK (Tyler J. Kelly)
On the trip, i learned alot about communication. i had never really thought of how hard it was to communicate when you are being a missionary. And i learned a lot about being grateful. i know that i will try hard to be grateful for what i have, and to get the necessities only. On the trip, there will probably be some chances for me to spend some extra money at a gift shop, or some street cart, and buy some stuff, but i can use that money instead to help some homeless person (who i realized had it harder than i thought) who really needs it for food, and in doing this i can witness to them.
there have been alot of people who have taught me through my life to be a good leader, friends, pastors, and teachers, but the people who have helped me to become a good leader most are my family, my mom, dad, grandpa, and siblings.
For a leader i admire... it would have to be my father. He is probably one of my favorite people in the world, even though we don't always agree on some stuff... but i will save that for a different comment, haha, just kidding, i love my dad, he is always there for me no matter what I do, he loves me, he cares for me, and no matter what mood he is in, or me, he is always ready to praise God or read the Bible. I can reflect his leadership in my live by trying my hardest to praise God all the time, no matter what circumstance, mood I am in, or whatever.
The overnighter was OFF THE HEEZY!!! (whatever that means, haha. i hope it means something good, because the overnighter was amazing!!!)
I cant wait to see you all tomorrow at the "mandatory parents meeting"
God Bless!
Shbeeb
I thought the weekend was really great. Even though I did not sleep a whole lot being outside all night I still enjoyed talking about the [Be the Change] book and meeting a lot of new people. Our table had the Asian food and it was pretty good. Eric did a nice job cooking. I was amazed by how different maps of the world can be and how we can have a distorted view or idea the way things actually are.
I like what Zach said in his book at the very end of the chapter...Lead by Example. I think that is exactly what Christ did. He did not come to this world to be served, but to serve. He being Lord of all, could have easily been the one everyone should have served, but He chose to humble himself and be the one doing the serving. He was truly being a leader by example for us to follow. He had mercy and compassion for the needy and wants us to follow His lead by having the same mercy and compassion for those in our world. If you want to be a leader, you first must be a good example for others to follow.

OMG(gosh) Im so sorry i missed the overnighter its a long story about wat happened(and its not an excuse its a dilemma Joel)but anyways...
Wat is a leader? A leader is someone you look to for guidance and help.A leader is there for his people and he cares for and protects them. A leader would die trying to lead his people to rightousness.I admire my grandpa because he has been a coach since i was born and a long time before so yea. Hes still coaching to this day, ya see my family is very athletic, so am i. hes always coaching me in every section of life. sometimes its annoying but most of the time it helps me alot so im grateful. He leads me everywhere and anywhere. U kno a person is a good leader when you could follow them anywhere. hes my leader.
-M.Swires
The thing that hit me most that we learned last weekend was about the water. It didn’t hit me when I read the paper Joel wrote. But it hit me when we had to carry it.
1. We carried it pairs when kids 4-5 years younger than us can/have to carry it by themselves.
2. We walked on the FLAT surface around the church. In the article Joel wrote about how they’d have to walk up and down uneven surfaces.
3. The distance we walked felt like forever but it’s nothing compared to what those people walk.
It was serious eye opener.
The way I think we can apply this to the trip is learning about what Boston people who were helping have to go through daily. We need, I think to try to put ourselves in their shoes as much as we can in order to do the most we possibly can to help them. If we don’t know what they need how are we going to help them… (I recall someone saying that or something along those lines last weekend.)
One person I think is good leader is Brooke Bloom. :]] She probably doesn’t think she is even after she was awarded for it on promotions. This girl got the Sons of Liberty Award. Which goes to one girl and one boy in every period in Social Studies, the award goes to who the body of that class thing is the best leader. One major requirement that our teacher Mrs. Newman emphasized on was NO ONE WITH UNCLEAN LANGAUAGE shall receive the award. There were several other requirements that were told when we voted and mentioned again when the award was given out. About the language thing I mentioned I want pull it back to the book. Zach said “God actually judges leaders more harshly than he judges followers, because they have assumed positions as guides.” I think that’s why the Sons of Liberty organization or whatever it is make such a big deal about language. They don’t want leader who talks dirt, they don’t want leader who leading people down the wrong path. They want Brooke and everyone else who rightfully won the award. They want leaders who are pure and try to do the right thing. But are totally fun and has beastly dancing skills. =P Another thing I’m pulling from the book is Zach said it doesn’t matter what you’re personality is, well if you don’t know Brooke she shy quite and NOT OUTGOING. If you do she hilarious, smart, and really awesome person. So leaders come in all shapes, sizes, forms, and personalities.
Hawk We might not have been the first to know but we were definitely the last to go in. I’m still annoyed at that stupid lightning I froze inside. It was way nicer outside…….” Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening” I nearly died laugh too after reading the Nancy and Winston quote. :]]
Asy aka shawna. You spelled oops right! Yay! :p I like the depth you got out of the joke. I probably wouldn’t have ever thought of that.
Shbeeb From what I learned after my google search “Off the heezy” is good it pretty much equivilant to “Off the hook”
I dont think its fair they made us go inside!!!!!!!! I was so much more comfy outside in the rain then inside freezin to death hahahah but thanx mads for stayin up with me the whole nite talking=) I thought the weekend was great! first of all they showed us how people srarve in Africa hahaha other then bein hungry for the whole meeting! it showed me how much our team really has to work together to get things done like with the buckets of water hahaha I got reallt soaked but any who i really had ubers of fun on the weekend
One person I really admire as a leader is my small group leader Hilary (I luv U) our class is so bad we barely ever can get a lesson done cuz we all start laughin and talkin bout stuff that is so lame hahahahahaha i admire her so much because she is so patient with us and never freaks out like I would if I was the leader of our class. She is such a great leader and teacher and I really admire her patience with us. I luv u thanks so much for being there for us!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I should try and be more lilke Hilary in the class because im not patient or guiet hahahahaha Im trying so hard to be not so loud in class and trying to listen better and not bang on the walls like madison hahahahahaha jk
ive been praying about settling down where ever I am and takin a chill pill! Hilary's patient is reflecting in my life and hope it can keep reflecting!
see some of you tomarrow at church or mayb at the meetin thing idk if im supposed to go hahahaha
bye!!!!!!!! Holly B.
O yah hahahaha im the only person goin on the trip named Holly so I dont have to worry bout the name thing!!!!!!!!!1

i had fiun at the overnighter, i am not going to lie the food was disgusting but it deffinetly taught me a lot about how I am blessed to be able to eat good food and have a bed to sleep in at
night.
I admire my older brother Shawn. Because he works very hard, and everyday he is up at five in the morning to go to work, and I think that is awesome. Someone who can do that five days a week is deffinatly a strong person. he has helped me out with a lot of problems and is always there for me, I try to be like him more and more because he is a good guy well thats all i have to say cya
kevin
Hey lingy here, sorry i'm late. Completely forgot untill today.
1.Since i didn't get on I had no idea we had to turn that in so it'll be a week late.
2.Getting a world view will help me put things in perspective when helping others and living a little like the homeless will help me have sympathy for them.
3.o-t-hay
4.A leader that i admire is pastor herb. he has the impossible job(like any youth leader) of teaching and leading kids who have short attention spans and little or no dicision making process. I know, i was one of those kids he had to teach. He is such a good leader because he makes you feel important and wanted, and can get through to any kid. He inspired me to become a youth pastor just like him. In the present i hope to be like him in that I live to help others and show them that they have worth in gods eyes even if the world dosen't think so.
Yo, was up? Dis is da Laurenator up in har. I'ma tell ya'll what I think bout dis.
At that overnight thing I learned how bad some people's living conditions are. I would die if I had to sleep out in the rain all the time. I also learned that I have it easy here in America because I don't eat to survive, I eat for pleasure.
The stuff we did will help me on the trip because when I'm talking to people I can keep in mind that they might be sleeping in the streets or struggling to find food. Knowing this can help me be more aware of what they're going thru.
I admire my mom. She's a really good leader. She leads a bible study for women and she's really loud and assertive. But she's nice about it. She keeps people on task (Like me when I'm doing my homework.) Anyway, she's really good at taking charge of things. She leads in a good way. I can learn a lot from her.
Well I can't wait 'til BOSTON. Peace. I'm out.
-L-Dawg FaShizzle
I learned how hard it is to be homeless and how hard it is to be poor. Something that makes someone a good leader is that they can get the job done, that they can get it done well, and not have a bad attitude.
Howdy homies!!!! Tis be Luc Luc...anyways...
One thing i learned about the overnighter is that you should never sleep next to a tent on the cement when the wind is blowing because IT WAS SO LOUD!!!! i didnt really feel like moving though until we went inside...but...im not really sure how i can use that on the trip sooooo...
Somebody that i admire as a leader would have to be Haych Dizzle because he always seems to make the right choice and turns to God for help. He also doesnt seem to really care what other people think of him which is exactly how i am too, yo!!
Another person that i admire as a leader is my dad. he is the hardest worker that i know. we just bought a new house and we were working outside doing yard work last thursday when it was 5 bajillion degrees and i decided to go inside for a break because i thought i was dying from the heat and my dad stayed outside to finish what he was doing even when he was completely red and sweating like crazy. i felt bad when i went inside so i got a water and came back out.lol. anyways my dad also relys on God for answers and always seems to be in a good mood even when we bought a new bathroom vanity and we unloaded it from the truck and carried it inside and took it out of the box to find out that a piece was chipped off. the vanity was so heavy that when we were carrying it back outside to the truck my fingers were turning red. haha. ok im done blabbing on now.peace out home dizzles
oh wait i forgot to say that when you eat food from india..bring a blindfold..trust me you'll need it!
i also forgot to say...nice name at the bottom Josh..hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah...lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol....woot that was fun :)
At the overnighter I learned that Americans make up a really small portion of the world and we still are the wealthiest. I also learned a little bit of what it is like for homeless people. I would never be able to sleep outside every night. So I learned to be thankful for what I have and not take it for granted.
I think a leader is someone who is a good role model and isn't afraid to take charge. There are many good leaders that I admire because I don't think you have to be like a class president or something big like that to be a leader. But being a class president is definitely one way to be a leader. I think you can reflect their leadership by listening to them and using what they say or do in your daily life.
GO SQUIRTLE!!! TAKE OUT CHARIZARD WITH YOUR WATER BLAST!!!!
Last weekend was really good for me, during it I learned a lot. I learned a little of what it's like to be homeless and sleep outside. This will help us on the trip because we are going see people without homes in Boston, and probably talk to some. I think that trying to live like they did for one night will help us understand them more. I also learned that many people around the world don't eat to feel good. They eat to survive. I learned that for some people eating is not fun like it is for us. They have to eat to stay alive. I'm going to start being a lot more grateful for how blessed I am.
Someone that I admire as a leader is pastor Larson. He leads our whole church, and he has done it for many years. I think what makes someone a good leader is taking control of certain situations when it is necesary(i don't know how to spell necessary) and they know what to do when they take control. Also, to be a good leader, sometimes you have to step down and follow others. I also think to be a good leader you have to be respected be other people. I think pastor Larson does a great job being a leader for God. I can reflect pastor Larson's leadership in my life by trying to spread my faith with others and trying to help other people with their faith like he does.
Love you all!!!!!!!!
-Jacob A.
I think ppl in america are soo selfish..beyond comprehension..ppl in other countries would kill for air conditioning.. or something as simple as food.. and us americans just eat and eat and just suck in our luxuries and we forget about everyone else...whcih is why we have homeless and hungry ppl in our own country! one word GREED! we are practically the richest courntry in thew world.. we should be the LAST counrty on this earth to have homeless ppl if we have sooo much money..its sad really...
I admire my dad most.. i think he is an amazing leader!.. when i watch my dad preach i get this feeling in me that im just soo proud of him.. and i feel i could brag to anyone saying that he is my father.. my dad is one of the most caring, honest, most respectful person i know.. one thing that really makes me look up to my dad is how much respect he gives to ppl.. who he doesnt neccesarly care for.. or like...
for example.. someone who is an aithiest, or someone who hates god.. if someone came up in my face and insulted god i would have no problem yelling at them or just being rude to them.. which by the way is NOT good.. but my dad.. if he was put in a situation like that.. he would giive that person the same respect as say the president.. which just amazes me.. because i just dont understand how my dad can be so kind and respaectfulk to ppl that might hate him.. and i think that is a great leadership characteristic...
On our meeting last friday I realized that even in America not everyone has the comfort and luxury of a home and a bed. Joel's story about carrying water for himself for a mile was a reminder of how lucky we are to be in this part of America. But with the blessings that God has given us, we should use those to bless other parts of America and around the world.
A leader in my life is my dad. He is the leader of our family, but in a way he is also a leader of his Ehko small group. But I think that every leader at some time has to listen and obey. And my dad does that at his work. He has people under him, and he has people above him.
Howdy!
The trip training last weekend was super duper fantabularly fantastic!
I think the one thing that changed me the most was how spoiled rotten i was. When we made the list of our possesions and had place there values next to them i realized a lot. ONe of thoose things was idk if i have touched that in the passt week even month. My goal is to conntent with what i have and not ask for more!
A leader in my life would be my mom! Without her i wouldnt know wat i had to do and when everyday! She is a great leader because she always knows what is going on and does her best to control crazy situations. I believe she is a leader because i try hard to live my life like her.
so, I have a slight problem. I wasn't at the trip training, so I didn't get said survey. also, I can't say what I learned, for the same reason as above. also, again, I can't share what I learned with a family member. so, A. do I have to do the survey, and B. if so, where can I get one?
anytheways, A person in a leadership position. hmm.... so many to choose! I guess I should say... my sunday small group leaders, pete and patrick. peterick if you will. mostly because I think that most of the kids in the class look up to them, and when you look up to someone it makes you want to be like them. now, pete and pat (petepat) are good people, so they are a good influence. but some people also looked up to, say, adoff hitler. NOT a good influence. so leadership can be good or bad. but in terms of good leaders, petepat dolkson.

Okay, so the first thing I learned at the overnighter was how wasteful our country really is! When we were eating dinner at the overnighter, I was one of the 3 lucky kids who got to be eating at the north american table. we got so many delicious things to eat! and other tables like china, were snacking on flavorless crackers! we didn't even eat all our food, but the others tables needed more of it! so it really taught me how ungrateful we are for what God has given us :) This can affect us on our boston trip (and wherever else we eat) by teaching us not to take our food for granted, and teaching us not to waste food.
I admire Jesus as a leader. I mean, he was the ultimate leader of all time! Out of all his amazing qualities, I admired that he always put others before his own comforts. He actually died for all of us! He's the most unselfish person in the history of unselfish people!
I can reflect his leadership in my life by always thinking how my words and actions are affecting others.
- J-Breezy
At the overnighter i learned that we are very, very fortunate and we should not take that for granted. We have more benefits than alot of other people in the world do and we should use those benefits to help other people. We should
remember that when we are on the trip.
One of the people that i think is a good leader is Tony Dungee who is the coach of the super Bowl 41 champions, the Indianapolis Colts. i read about him and heard and interview and found out that he is a strong Christian and tries to do everything Gods way. One thing that stood out to me was that he never yells at his players or assistant coaches. Which is pretty amazing because he is not only an NFL coach but a successful one at that, with a superbowl ring. So that proves you can be a good leader without yelling and screaming and bossing everybody around. We have to remember that on the Boston trip.
Daniel A.
over the weekend i think i learned a little about how incredibly spoiled we as americans are, and how people in other countries live, and even some here in america. just the carrying water around the church was annoying for me, but to think that some people have to do that times 10 ever day just amazes me. someone i admire as a leader (other than the obvious answer(Jesus)) would be both of my parents. what makes them such good leaders is that they're not like, crazy stritk or anything, but when something needs done they make sure it happens. i can reflect that in my life by doing the same, not always worrying about how or when it will happen, but just making sure it'll happen. guess thats all for now.

hay its ashton!!! ummm lets seee what did i learn at the missions trip over niter!!!!! i learnd that china makes good rice and that when you have back problems it sucks to sleep on the ground cuz den ur back hurts for like five days after. i missed my bed but i would sleep outside again anyday with my frans but i coulnd't do it everynite i would die!!!! i feel bad for those who have to sleep outside everynite..
i learn allot from my grandpa well mabey it's cuz he gives me a quiz like eveyday on some random subject but its fun... he teaches me everything and he means allot to me.. i learned never swing on the fist pictch (softball) and that never trust fast food restrants. he also taught me (weather he knos it or not) to be pathient and loveing nomatter how ungreatful someone is. they need you more if there ungreatful.. then theres my basketball couch (the high skool basketball couch) he teaches me allot to life weather he knos it or not idk.. but he tought me you can't just sitt around to be the best at what you do it takes hard work and dedication. he also taught me to work with other people and to trust them. if i didn't learn that i wouldn't be who i am today.. i'm friends with everyone and trust most people and that will take me far in life.... the last person who i look up to is my grandma (the wife of my papa) ummm she works soo hard and travels all the time for her work and she is the boss of her work and she means everything to me and wen ever she's home she has us all over for a huge dinner...it's like thanks givin eveyday at her house. she works so hard and still finds time to come to most of my games and she has like 9 to 11 grandchildren and were all in sports and she comes to most of our games... she means everything to me......

hi there!! well, I have to say the overnighter was so amazing, and i learned a lot from it. First, I thought it was good that you made us sleep outside, so that we could actually experience how tons of people sleep every night. I also realized how much more thankful I should be for the things I have everyday access to. and that I shouldn’t just take those things for granted, but know that I am so extremely blessed to have them.
Someone that I admire is Kim, one of my small group leaders on Sunday mornings. what makes her such a good leader is her fun attitude, the good example she sets, the encouragement she gives me, the fact that she takes time out of her Sunday to teach us and her willingness to listen. I believe I can reflect her leadership in my life by being willing to learn from her,
and by treating others in the same kind, loving, way she treats me.
Hey! The overnight was really neat. I liked how we ate dinner from different countries. And how we got to experienced how lucky we are to have so much food. Also i thought the sleeping outside was a cool experience. I admire Eric Hayes as a leader. One reason is how God has changed his life. Also how he teches us in a way that makes u want to listen. I also admire him for wanting to help us and see us grow in our faith.

On the overnighter, I learned alot about how it is to be homeless. I thought of it as a one time thing thats not so bad. but in reality, homeless people dont stay homeless for one day then get to sleep in a bed the next. Also, when we carried the buckets around the church, it wasn't that hard because we had other people to help. However, some people have to carry those buckets every single day on top of their heads. that would be really hard. I also liked getting an idea of what other people eat.
I admire alot of people. I admire my friends who have been through so much in their lives. No matter how hard life is, they seem to usually still have a good attitude. I also admire my youth leaders. They are always finding a way to please the Lord and not caring about what others think. They teach me so much about God. they also have lots and lots of patience!
On the trip i think that when we face hard times, we can remember our overnighter and how hard other people live. When we want to complain about not having air conditioning for one week,we should remember the people who never have AC.
peacee :)
so at the overnight i learned that i need to brush up on some facts... i didn't do as well on the quiz as i thought i would :) i also learned that i can sleep through a thunderstorm, even when i'm sleeping out in it.
there are a lot of people i look up to as leaders, whether they are people i actually know, people i have been exposed to, or people i have read about. i admire sherri landis, who used to be a youth leader of mine (some of you go to camp carl: sherri is the camp director's wife). i admire beth moore, who spends her life researching things that are relevant to our understanind of the Bible, and making her findings more accessible to others. i admire jim elliot -- he was a missionary who was killed by village in south america that he was trying to reach. i came across his journal some years ago... i admire him for his striving to never concern himself with anything but the will of God in anything he did. while i admire the way he died, i admire even more the way that he lived. i admire joel and eric and lydia, and joe.
there used to be a youth pastor at the Chapel who said one thing i'll never forget, which is a paraphrase of something Paul says (1 Corinthians 11:1 -- "Imitate me, even as I imitate Christ).
he said:
"As much as you see me be like Christ, be like me."
I always thought that applied well to being a leader. if i want to be a leader, i only want to lead people to be more like Christ. so, as much as you see Christ in me, be like me.
ps i look forward to getting to know more of you...
Sorry I’m late had a yard sale and had to clean out the garage. My teacher Mr. Smith is a good leader because all of his students respect him and he can keep them in line without raising his voice. At the same time he can be very funny. I can reflect on this because when ever someone messed up on an equation he would help them through it and show them examples.
Ok wow! I thought that last weekend was an amazing experience. Having to sleep out in the rain with only a trash bag turned out to be a real challenge for some people. And even though we were sent back inside because of the "thunder bolt and lightning, very very frightning" haha sorry had to quote Queen, couldn't resist, but anyways I thought that most people got the general idea that people around the world have to do that everyday and they can't just go inside when they're cold, wet, and tired. I think that it turned out to be a real eye-opener for a lot of the kids. I know that it was for me.
Someone that I admire very much in my life would have to be Denise Reed. She is one of the best leaders I know and she really takes an interest in what you have to say. I remember on the mission trip last year I was just having a louzey day and I was telling Densie about it she just made me feel like 10x's better. I can like never be mad around her because shes just so funny and so much fun to be around. And in our small group she does a great job at teaching the books of the bible and then relating it to ways that we can practice what we learn in real life.
I had a great time at the overnighter. One ting i realized was that America is spoiled when it comes to food. When Joel and Eric brought out all that food it made me jealous. We were stuck eating food that looked like poop and which i agree with luc luc we needed blind-folds. But when you see how less fortunent other countries are it makes you think.
I think to become a leader you need to be respected. If you treat others fairly the same should come back at you. When you're a leader people look up to you and see what your doing and try to follow your examples. If they are bad examples then they're just going to keep following in the same bad direction.

I learned how hard the homeless have it, and how hard it is for them just to find an good place to sleep and to even go to sleep.
I learned how hard it is for people just to get some clean drinking water. When we're on the missions trip I think it will help for us to be understanding of the living conditions and try to help them in some way.
Someone I admire as a leader is probably my mother. For example she always has to look after the whole house because my dads not there, she has to make all of the meals for us and she still is a loveng mother.

Well i learned from the trip meeting that even when it rains or snows u still have to stay outside when your homeless. the food tasted really bad, but hey im sure most people in africa would be lucky to even have that for every single meal. It made me think that i shouldnt reallly take things for granted becuzz even the little things like pennys could help over in other countryies. like maybe i could start saving my extra money and donating it to an organization like the haven of rest.
I admire my baseball coach. he alwasy does what he belives is right, and even tho its not always in a christian way he gets the job done. like if a kid cant aford to play on the team he will help pay for them, despite him not making alot of money.

Alexander the Great was a good leader. (if you include conqueror) One thing that made him such a good leader was that he had the trust of his entire army. Another thing was that everyone liked him. Another GREAT (understatement) leader is God (duh). One thing that made him a good leader is he brought an entire nation out of bondage with the help of Moses so they have someone to see physically.
Hey it's me Nathan
This chapter was about leadership and that what ever you are doing you can be a leader. Well this year I am work at Camp Straight Street so in that occasion Herb Owen is the leader of the camp. But in a different meaning I do think the one person I admire is Herb. The reason is because for the past four years or maybe five years, he has always been at church to say hi to and when I was younger I have lessons at church about the bible. But know I am working for him so I see him more. The reason he is a good leader is because he never puts you down he always gets you in a happy mood and he not bossy. How can I reflect this leadership in my life, I can now from herb he always makes kids happy. So I can reflect on that and make people happy. One more thing let's be leader in Boston.
i had a great time at the overnighter although i got about 2 to 3 hours of sleep. this trip training taught me so much about how blessed we are here in the U.S.
The food that our table had made me more thankful that i live in North America and it made me realize what PIGS we are. We have food eating compotitions that are even on ESPN when there are people out there who don't even have enough food for one day.
This overnighter also put in perspective how bad homeless people have it in this country.
i think a leader is someone who looks out for others before themselves and tries to provide for and protect them. A true leader is someone who takes charge
in a tough situation and is humble
in doing so.

Howdy, It's Hayden! I'm a bad boy cuz this is late. : (
Overnighter...
At the meeting I learned, that as americans we have it pretty freakin easy. Sometimes we may think how terrible our life is cuz we dont have exactly what we want while people all across the world might not even have what they need. It could help on our trip becuz we can see people less fortunate than us and we know that their bad people, they juat don't have what they need.
Leader...
Someone I admire as a good leader is probably you Joel (i'm not sucking up it's true). He makes a good leader becuz he puts it all out their and isn't ashamed of what he believes. If you don't like him, he's not gonna change for you. He stands up for what he believes in. This could help me becuz sometimes I have trouble being confident with myself and my beliefs. Thanks Joel for being so Freakin' awesome!!!!
Bye everyone!!!
~Haych-Dizzle
By the way, thanks Luc-Luc!! I feel all happy inside now! :P
i just realized i dint post this one my fault!
i learned how well off we hav it compared to the rest of the world while we eat until we cant eat anymore and other countries are eating things that well... look like poop
a good leader i admire is one of my football coaches. they wouldnt just tell us what to do and expect us to do it they would give us reasons why we should listen to them and not just do our own thing and no matter what we would always listen to them and i really learned a lot from them

Sorry this is so so so so late I have been so busy but no excuses. The weekend help me grasp how many people are in slavery, are poor, and are holding on for life. It made me think of how lucky we are to life in a free country where some of us are poor but many are living good lives. Dinner Friday Night was a lot of fun and helped me think about how much we have. This weekend will help me on the trip by showing God's love to others who are much less fortunate than us.
Well that all for this post Later, Sam Hill
At the overnighter i learned that i am so blessed to have what i have.
I also learned that the United States is EXTREMELY SPOILED.
I was really hungry because i had only a little bit of food for supper becuz i was eating like chinese do.And when i slept outside like a homeless person i got really really sore.
and yet im so glad the leaders had us do all that.It opened my eyes to a new page where i realized i take SOOOOO many things for granted and other people do too.
Whether your aware of this or not its still so difficult to be thankful for the things we do have and stop whining about the things we dont have.
I feel awful when i realize i've been acting whiny and spoiled =/
but i know if i just think more often on how lucky i am compared to others who are suffering then i will act less like that and it will make me a better person.
i had this teacher for 8th grade named Mrs.Osborn.
she knew how to lead a group and make sure everything was fine.
Most of the students did not like her AT ALL.but that didnt stop her from doing her job.she didnt care what they really thought about her.she really wanted the students to achieve. She was always telling us what to do and pushing us to work harder so we could be smarter and learn more. She put love and passion into her job and i really loved and noticed and appreciated it even though the other kids had a hate against her.
she taught me so much and really prepared me for high school.i really admired her strong leadership.

okay so i learned alot from being in the rain laying outside in the grass even though i got really sick and was only out there for an hour i couldnt imagine living my life like that. and i found ou that i am allergic to grass. carrying that water was pretty tough too and it took alot of team work even tho we didnt hold the bucket for long it still felt like a century i cant imagine doing that all alone walking 2 miles i think i would die. luxaries are our way of life but the people that we will be meeting will not have this and i want to help however i can.
i admire my dad as a leader because he always works as hard as he can but he still has fun and he always puts the family first not himself. i tend to try to put myself first and i need to stop because i am not the most important person in the world others are in need i want to help anyway i can. my daddy is a loving guy and i wanna take after his ways.i hv learned alot from him and i am still learning he is my leader and i would want to be like him if i was in the position af leadership.
