Welcome to the first official assignment of our Be The Change experience. I'm pumped we get to read this book together & I think that Zach has some really good things to tell us. He's the guy that's pictured on the front and in the video's on the post right before this one (take a look if you haven't yet!)
One of the things I really like about this book is that it offers a couple questions at the end of each chapter to help you think through what you just read. These books are yours to keep, so feel free to write in your answers, to underline parts you think are important, or to make any other notes that will help you get the most you can from it.
Here's a couple questions that I'd like us to discuss on here. Just click on the comment button below and add your voice to the conversation. Make sure you read what other people have said, too, and respond to them as well as to the question(s) that I post each time. Remember that you need to have this section read & responded to on here by May 17. But the sooner you do it, the better!
(A quick note regarding answers...there is no length that an answer has to be. However, I really want you to dig into this book & not just slap something down & be done, so short answers are discouraged. Please take time to really think, write & respond. Make sure that you include your first name & last initial either in your comment somewhere.)

hi. i'm going to warn everyone that this is really long. i had a lot to say! =]
Wow! There are so many influential people in this world; both in good ways and bad. I could never pick just one person who is more influential then another, and to be honest, I think we are all equally influential. We are all the most influential people in the world. Who we are today sets up what out world is tomorrow. I don’t really think there are qualifications for being influential. Everything we do is influencing someone in one way or another, no matter how great or small. But the qualifications to be a good influence? I think probably knowing that what you say or do is impacting someone, but also knowing that your going to flub up and be a bad influence sometimes. Not everything we do is good unfortunately, but God forgives us for that and so does Jesus, so something a good influence would have to do is learn to forgive themselves and also learn to apologize when necessary. I’ve seen so many people in my life that have tried to be a good influence to me, and many of those people have this idea that to be a good influence, you have to be PERFECT. So not true. I’ve learned nothing from these people except that I don’t want to be like them. I’d have to say the people who think being perfect is the only way to be a good influence are probably some of the worst influences. None of us can be perfect, its not like we’re Jesus! Personally, I think that the more mistakes we make, the more we have to offer people in the end.
A big influence to me is a girl named Renee. She is pretty much the reason behind an AMAZING organization called To Write Love On Her Arms, which has changed my life dramatically. Renee used to be a drug abuser who suffered with depression and self injury [SI] [for those of you who are wondering, SI is what a lot of you know as ‘cutting’, but its not limited to that. Its anything done by you that hurts you to relieve stress/depression symptoms/anxiety, not to kill. I wanted to clear that up.], along with many other things. For a little over a year I have dealt with a lot of what Renee has dealt with. For a while I was in denial. I was embarrassed and ashamed and all I could think of was what people would say if they found out what I had been dealing with. It was probably one of the most embarrassing things of my life; until I read Renee’s story. Because of her influence on me, I got over my fear of getting help and my fear of telling people about what was really going on, because I know one day that that honesty might help someone find the courage that they desperately need for their survival buried deep somewhere inside themselves.
At least, I hope it will! =]
Some people view our generation as kind of self centered and stuck on ourselves as if we only care about ourselves. Guess what? I’d have to say that for the most part, they’re right! Every single one of us knows that there isn’t a day that goes by that we aren’t constantly thinking of ourselves in everything we do. Lets say your mom “forces” you to go wash her car. What do you think of? That’s right, I bet its “what’s in it for me?!”. It’s hard to admit, but it’s the truth. But I think our generation would be the very best yet if we could all just get the big picture. Sometimes I wish some people, myself included, would just get off cloud nine and realize that there are worse problems than fighting with a friend or breaking up with a boyfriend/girlfriend and what not. Those things definitely stink, but there are A LOT of worse things out there. We’ve got people severely in debt to the point that they have to sell their homes, work extra jobs, and give their kids to relatives until they can get back to standing on their own two feet. We have people dying all over the world of AIDS and other incurable diseases. We’ve got people with depression, thoughts of/attempts at suicide, parents who are divorcing, or parents who are physically, emotionally, or verbally abusive. That’s only naming a FEW of the things wrong in the world. Think about that. All of that, and we ‘hate’ our lives because we’re fighting with a friend? But guess what? I’m sure the majority of us know what it is like to have a problem similar to one of the issues I’ve listed above. The cool thing is, we can use our knowledge and personal experiences about anything we’ve dealt with to change the world and the lives of the people in it. At the very least, I would like our generation to be viewed as useful for our struggles and using them to everyone’s advantage, instead of being viewed as a generation that is useless because we use our struggles as an excuse.

Hello! Ok so I deff. think that to many Christians, Pastors or teachers from their church are a big influence to them. And I think someone who influences every single person is their parents. Parents certainly play a big part in their children’s lives.
Some of the people who have influenced me greatly are my family members, grandparents, and teachers from church. My parents influence me in what they say and do and teach me. Also my sister Lauren is most certainly a big influence to me. she is always there for me when I am struggling with something. She is always encouraging me and she has really been influencing me with her musical talent. Lauren sings and composes songs, and most of them are about Gods greatness and faithfulness to us. She wrote a song for me and my sisters talking about how we need to be ourselves and not base who we are off of what others think we should be like, and how we just need to shine forth Gods love in our life.
Joslynn my other sister influences me greatly and I totally want to be like her because in everything she does and says you can see her love for the Lord. She is such a great sister, always encouraging and looking at the positive side of things and always trying to find a calm solution to hard situations. She is always telling me how she wishes when she was my age that she would have spent more time in the word and with God. She is also always reminding me of how important it is to pursue a deep relationship with God. So yea, my sisters have deff. Influenced me a lot and have helped me to become the person I am today. They are always giving me wise advice and I know they will always be there to keep me accountable.
I think of a good influence as someone who I look up to… someone who has an impact on my life, and who I want to be like.
i think most people view our generation as lazy, and basically most of the time focusing on ourselves. A lot of the people in this world are very self centered.
I wish the people in the world would open their eyes and realize that its not all about themselves. And understand that we need to help others for a change. i think this world could deff. show more kindness and love towards others, even by just doing simple things. I wish that this world could be known for its Love and Kindness and even humbleness. i wish this generation would make a difference by, instead of becoming more self centered, becoming less self centered, and focusing more on the needs of others.
-Taylor C.-
Some of the most influential people in the world would have to be some people in the U.N. or president of some major country.
Some of the people who most influence me would have to be my parents, close friends, and Sunday school/pastors.
When someone becomes influential it is usually because they have gained respect by many people or a few people who highly respect them.
Some of the older people (no offense) sometimes think of the younger generation to be reckless, sinful, lazy, and just downright mean.
I wish our generation were branded as God-loving people who almost always did what is right. And would be happy to help everyone that needed it.
Who is the most influential person in the world?
People can be influenced by others like athletes, political figures or maybe teachers. As Shawna mentioned there are good and bad influences. As Christians I think God calls all of us to be an influence to others. Christ taught in Matt. chap 5 that we are the Salt and Light of the earth. Salt is used as a preservative and seasoning. As followers of Christ we are to be a preservative and seasoning for those around us who are in this world. As salt has an effect on food, so too we should have an effect or influence on others around us. Love Your Neighbor.
As Light we are to let our light shine before all men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. We are to be an illuminating example or influence to the world by showing them the gospel. The ultimate influence would be to cause others to praise the Father and follow Him. Not to follow us. What kind of influence are we to those in our world today?
To me, there is not one person who is the most influential person in the world. However, I think that to a lot of people, the president is the most influential. People look up to him to make changes that are best for our country. Also, parents are very influential people. Their kids are always watching them and doing what they do.
Some of the people who have influenced me the most are my parents, and pastors/youth leaders. First, my parents are always there for me. I learn from them by what they say and do. Second, on a retreat I went on with my church, the pastors and other youth leaders there were so on fire for God. They didn’t care what other people thought of themselves. The only thing that mattered to them was that they pleased the Lord in everything they did. This stood out to me a lot. They encourage me to stand up for God.
A good influence is someone who is a good role model. Even if you don’t know it, someone is watching you and looking up to you. You will have an impact on someone’s life. So, you should make it a good one.
Others view our generation as lazy and self-centered. Many people think our generation will not do good for this country. People view us as troublesome teenagers who will fail in what we do.
I wish our generation was branded as kids who want this world to be better. I wish we were known as a loving generation who dosen't discriminate and accepts everyone for who they are. However, to get to this, we have a a very long way to go. Also, I wish we were viewed as individuals and not just a bunch of teenagers who cant do anything productive. All teenagers are not the same. A great number of young people have many talents that can be used for good. People need to see that.
heyy. frst off, id like to say i love this book and i think it gives us a great view of how realistic we can make such a big goal, and if we work hard enough we can achieve our deams.
Ok, so now ill try to contain my ADDness hahaha.
I think that there are sooo many influential people in the world we live in today. Everyone is influenced by someone different, depending on what they're interested in. Most middle school guys are very into sports, and many the people that influence them are sports icons. This is not necessarily a good thing though, considering many of them are involved in acivities that are harmful to themselves and people who look up to them, and may one day follow their example. Also, since such a huge part of our generation revolves around music, many artists are also very influential. However, these people are different in the way they influence people than athletes are. Music artists are influential not only with their actions, but also with their lyrics. Words are one of the most powerful things in the world... and when you put them to a beat, and make them known all over the world, it makes them even more ifluential than that.
But its not just the famous and well-known people who ifluence us in our everyday lives. When we're walking down the halls at school, talking with friends, or anything, there is always someone watching us. We have to be so careful with the way we conduct ourselves so that we use our talents and our lives to make the best impact on the world that we can, no matter how small.
Qualifications of an influential person???
An influential person is one who makes an impact on another persons life. Everyone, no matter if you like to think of it or not, is an influence in this world. We all make an impact on another persons life. We all change someone's thoughts or ideas in one way or another.
However, if we want to be a good influence, we need to be able to stand up for what believe in, and speak out against something that is wrong. We also need to be able to make wise decisions and fix the bad ones.
One of the greatest influences in my life is probably my mom. I know that she has been through so much when she was younger, and she always seems to know what i'm dealing with. I was born when my mom was only sevtenteen. I think that seeing my mom struggle becasue of those choices only md m respect for her greater because of the way she was able to overcome these challenges and have such a successful life. My mom and i hang out all the time, and i know that no matter what she will always be there for me.
I think our generaton is viewed as rough, rowdy, and self-centered. Most of the time, these things are very true. The mistake that we have made to become this way is that we listen to everyone who tells us that we cant be good enough, and that we cant change the way we are. We ignore the potential that only few pople see in us. Our generation has a lot to say. From the way we dress to the music we produce, to the shows tt we watch everyday... they all make a statement and a uiet cry to anyone that will pay enough attention to listen. If we find our voices, we can truly make a great impact on the world. Someone from this generation will one day be the president, will one day be a teacher (of hundreds), will one day be a pastor, a lawyer, a judge, a policeman, a firefighter, a parent. We are going to be in control of a major part of this world one day. If we don't find our voices, we will let all of that fire and potential go to waste.
I would like to see our generation be known as the one that chged the view of the world, who spke out against the world's issues, both big and small.
Love you all! Can't wait for the trip!!
~Desi~ :)
There are a lot of influential people in the world today. For instance, pastors or even sports icons. I look up to famous athletes because I am really into sports and I know not all of them are great influences, but then I know some of them are good influences for me.
One of my biggest influences is my family because they stick together know matter what happens in life, good or bad. Another big influence in my life are my friends because without them I don't know where I would be. My friends probably made the biggest impact in my life because I know if I was in trouble or hurt they would be there for me. I know if one of my friends got hurt I know I would back them up 100%.
For someone to be influential I think they have to be a good influence for younger kids or people around them. For instance, I think Zach Hunter is an influential kid just by the way he wants to help the slaves in the other countries. A person isn't influential if they are lazy and don't have a good education or don't have a right look at life. Because that attitude won't get them far, it'll only bring them down either with the bad kind of friends or peer pressure.
I think most people view our generation as lazy, selfish, and you need the newest thing that comes out in stores. Because most people are selfish and only worry about their own needs, and don't care about other people around them with bigger problems then you. Believe it or not, there are thousands of starving people in different countries and people in the U.S. worry about the dumbest things. When you could look at the starving people and think to yourself they have way bigger problems than you could ever imagine. I wish my generation was branded with kids our age willing to make a difference in life and to actually, help people that need help.
Who do you think is the most influential person in the world? Who are some of your biggest influences? What makes someone influential?
The most influential person in the world, to me, would have to be my grandpa. He taught me many things as I grew up. My grandparents used to live right next to our house so, when ever I felt the need I could walk over and visit them. My grandfather taught me how to catch a football and a baseball, how to make plenty of oat meal, and he taught me the first five books in the Bible. My grandpa was very tall,(6ft something) thus, he was the best at basketball. He never taught me how to play this sport, but I caught on fast. We would spend hours at a time playing short games of PIG or HORSE at the park. At home he would push me on the swings and carry me on his shoulders around the garden outside. Grandpa loved his garden. If you wanted to find him, all you had to do was look in the garden. He spent most of his time there. If he wasn't in the garden, he was working at the Mission. My grandparents both had a job there. Grandpa's job was to teach small bible classes to drug abusers and Grandma did some filing. One day, my father told me that in high school, my grandfather turned down a basketball scholarship for a better education. He became a follower of Christ and shared his word where ever he went. Grandpa touched many people's lives as he strolled down the path of life, leaving a holy trail behind him. He died at age 70 in 2003.
How do others view your generation? How do you wish your generation were branded?
Others view my generation as needy, whiny babies. Last year my teacher, Mr. Currey, told our second period math class that our generation needs a lot of attention and we can't handle a simple homework task without complaining about it. We obviously do not agree, but maybe some people do see us that way. As technology advances, and fads or ways of life change we are used to getting what we want, when we want it. Our generation can't really help that!! What are we supposed to do? Go outside and milk a cow for fun?
I wish our generation could grow up just a little. In the halls at school today I heard a teacher yell out- "Stop that!! You're not a second grader anymore, so...STOP ACTING LIKE ONE!!" I agree that our generation does act immature most of the time. Some act up more than others, but I do believe that it is time for us to grow out of this bad reputation.

heyyyy ya'll!
omg! i am like in love with this book! just had to say that! =]
ok.. well i think the most influential ppl in this world are mostly like celebrities and famous ppl...i think because you see them in movies and on talk shows and all that, and i think if that person shows good qualities in front of the world it looks like they are a good person and maybe evern a christian 100% of the time..the most influential person to me would be my cousin melissa...she is amazing! and it seems like she always knows what to do in a bad situation. i hope some day i will live up to her and treat others like shes treats them.
i think everybody has different standards of what an influental person is..but i think its usually someone who repsects others and is strong with the lord, i tend to look up to ppl who are really deep in their faith and who are confident in themselves. no matter what anyone else says.
our generation, wow, theres a big one..
I hear tons of adults complain about our generation, but a part of me has to agree with them. This generation is so concerned on the way they look on the outside that they forget about the inside, thats how i feel about this, which is why so many kids in my school today don't care about jesus, religion is just one big joke and people think it's stupid to even act like you car about god.
wow! i can't believe that we are getting ready to go on our next missions trip already. time has just flew by so quickly.
anyways. so after reading a few of the blogs, i agree that you can't just point your finger at one person and say "they are the most influential person in the world, duh!" it's not that simple. but in a way i think that eveyone in the world, at least at some point is influential to someone or another.
i think the most influential person for me is a girl by the name of cassie bernall. her mom wrote a book about her. she was sort of a regular teen. she made mistakes here and there, but she still managed to put God in front of her. unfortunaly, one day, 2 gunmen at her school attacked. she just so happened to be in the school library when the gunmen entered. she wasn't afraid of them because she knew that whatever happened to her, she would end up in heaven. the gunmen walked up to her (she was sitting) and out of the blue asked her if she believed in Jesus. she didn't hesitate one bit and she said "yes". right after that they shot her in the head. i think that she is so influential to me because she stood up for her faith and after i read the book i asked myself would i have done what cassie did? and i probably would have done the same.
you don't have to be big and strong to be influential. you just have to be youself and show that to other people.
some view our generation as dumb, lazy children. in fact some kids these days are lazy. they play play guitar hero and don't work hard in school. but i think that our generation deserves more than that. we are smart and we could do anything if we put our mind to it. a lot of people don't realize that in about 10 years our generation will be the doctors, nurses, engineers, mechanics, scientists, pastors, sunday school teachers, and maybe even mail men, that they need. so insted of insulting us they should be lifting us up and encouraging us to live for the things we love. i want our generation to be looked at as hard workers and intellegent people. even though we may wrap our lives around ourself sometimes, i think i think it is good to show love and appreciation towards people, to show that our generation is not only smart but friendly and caring as well.
I believe that the most influential people in the world help make change for the better. They don't put their needs first, they look out for others.
People who have influenced my life would be my parents. I don't realize it all the time but they show me the right thing to do, and what i need to learn from my mistakes. My parents put my wants and desires first and then they do what they want to do.
People in society today put down our generation and tell us that we need to be like everyone else. If we start to make a change in the world and try to be like ourselves then more accomplished ideas will come out ouf our generation.
Hi friends! I can't believe that this is my last missions trip in junior high! Time has just blown right past and I never want to leave. These few years at Ehko have truly changed me for the better.
Where do I start? I mean, there are so many influential people in our world, but if I had to pick one, it would be Jesus! You may be thinking, real creative Kara! But if you actually think about, Jesus has affected this world in so many ways that you can't even name them all. First off, he has always been there for us, whenever we need him, and that is a big thing. He has created such an awesome example for us, he is absolutely perfect. No matter what, we can always turn to him for help, he never leaves, he never rejects us. He has done so many amazing things for us, like dying on the cross for our sins. He has had a huge impact on everybody, including myself. I believe that with Jesus by our side, nothing is impossible, and we receive a wonderful gift called hope. Hope for a better life, hope for heaven. I'm sure that everybody knows someone who has passed away, and even though the family and friends are heart-broken, it is a great day for that person, if they had true faith in God. For they get to end all of their suffering, and go to a place where there is no such thing as pain and hunger. Knowing that I have this hope, it has helped me through those bumps in life.
Some of my biggest influences, wow, that's a tough one. Well truthfully, my church leaders and pastors have been huge to me. They have set such a great example on me, and I want to grow up to know God as much as they do. They have not only given me a new knowledge about God, but have provided another person to go to when I need help. Knowing that I have them, I feel like i am unstoppable, and I can like knock down a building or something. I would definitely consider them family, and I love all of my leaders/pastors. And of course, my mom has been such a testimony to me, and I know that she is there to back me up. Also, I have had two previous teachers, Mr. Basone and Mr Lazor. They're both christians, and at a public school, speak up for what they think is right, and support me in a Friday morning prayer group that I lead at my school. They are so cool and so much fun, and knowing that they are saved has made me extremely happy.
Truthfully, I don't really know what makes someone influential. But if I had to guess, a person would have to set a good example, be thoughtful, and a good listener. With these qualities, a person like this has the true potential of being influential and having a big impact on someone's life. But it is true that everyone is influential, whether it is in a good way or a bad way. We all need to watch what we are doing, because it definitely is impacting another person.
I think that others view our generation as a selfish, snobby group. Although some of this is correct, we are also some things that other generations were not. As Zach Hunter said, our generation is very expressive. We are very independant, and definitely have the potential of changing the world. This is a quality that others need to learn from, but we also need to work on that self-centered factor.
I wish that our generation was branded as the kids who want to make a difference. The kids that know that our world is far from perfect, and want to try to do something about it. I know that I feel this way, and I'm sure that others do also. I also feel like God put kids just like you and me in our world to make a difference, and I want to reach that goal. No matter how big, I am up for the challenge. I am willing to "Be the Change".

I have one thing to say before I start I can't wait until our missions trip!!!!!! :)
Personally I think that the biggest influences on the world today are singers and movie stars. People see them and think oh I wish I could look or be just like them. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. If a strong Christian singer or actor/actress sets a good example by not getting involved with drugs, alcohol, and sexual sins. People will see this and wonder why this is. This could lead to many questions which could end up leading several people to Christ. Now if a singer or actor lives a life full of drugs, alcohol and partying these actions will lead people even believers into disobeying God and turning away from following Him. In the church world today Pastors and other strong Christian leaders such as the pope are very good roll models unless they get mixed up in worldly desires.
Some of my biggest influences would be y parents, my grandparents, Pastor Herb Owen, and Pastor Joel Daniel Harris.
The things that i think makes people influential which are not always good are a recognizable job and fame/fortune, strong teachings and what they do with their
life.
People today I believe view our generation as a one that all we want to do is have fun. Elderly people think oh their all so wild, and even some younger adults believe that as well. I believe that the reason that they think this is because several members of our generation have led very sinful lives filled with drugs alcohol and partying.
I wish that your generation would turn their ways around and try to listen to authority and stop doing sinful worldly pleasures. I hope that one day our generation will turn around and start living for Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go BOSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey its JCrabbs.
So i just want to start off by saying, everyone is influential. It just depends on if its good influence or bad influence. Another thing to keep in mind is if your famous enough to be heard or if alot of people look up to you or know you. For example Joel is more influential than me, because he knows more people and more people know him. With that said i beleive that athletes are a very good place to look for influence, but the media always hypes it up too much and makes players look worse then they appear. for instance you saw that LeBron was caught going like 120 in a 50 zone, now im sure most of our dads have done the exact same thing, they might not have goten caught, but its still the same. But there are alot of athletes that have bad influence such as T.O. Packman Jones, Steven Jackson, and the list goes on and on.
OK now the most influential person to our generation is Martin Luther King Jr. because you always hear his name and you hear the stories and you think wow this guy is amazing. And he was. M.L.K.JR. is one of those guys i wanna be just like when i grow up.
Now for me the most influential person is my friends. there always there for you, and if there not then there not a true friend. also when your friends do something that makes you want to do the same thing.
thats it hoped it made sence sorry for all the spelling erors.
Peace seeyall at the end of May.

hey everyone! It's lauren herr.
i think there are a ton of influential people in this world from movie-stars to singers to the president. they can either influence people in a good way or in a bad way. in fact, we all influence the people in our lives, which is why we should make sure we are influencing in a good way. anyways, i dont really think that i could pick the most influential person because there are way too many. the people that are the most influential to me would have to be my family members. since im always around them every single day, i've probably picked up a lot of things from them. i especially look up to my sister, anna. i think i can safely say that she's a positive influence on me. she seems to have an honest love for god and others and she always cheers me up! so really anyone around us and in our lives influences us one way or another. just like we influence them. we need to make sure we are showing jesus's love thru everything we do. even though we're gonna mess up sometimes cuz we're human, god knows we make mistakes. we should keep in mind that even if you dont know it there are people who look up to us and are watching us and god might be able to change people's lives thru us.
I think this is a really cool book and i cant wait 'til we leave 4 boston!!!!!!
-The Laurenator
Yo!This is Antwaun comin at ya!
There is not one person that we could say is the most influential in the world. I think that the most influential people are athletes. If an athlete a kid likes supports a product, than that that kid will want to buy it. That's why every company goes out and tries to get an athlete to support their product, or sponsor a team. I think that we need more leaders who are strong christrians who will influence others to accept Christ.
Some people who have been an influence to me is of course my family because I'm around them every day. Also, the youth pastors at our church have had a big influence on me; like pastor Herb, jdh, and Erik. They have all helped me to grow strong in Christ. I think there are a couple of ways to be an influence in this world. One way is to be famous like a movie star or an athlete. But I think the way to be the best influence on someone is to be respected by them and have them look up to you; by example. That way they don't just like you because everyone else does.
I think that the way adults view our generation is not good at all. They see us as reckless, selfish, spoiled and sometimes lazy. And all of this is usually true. We all care more about ourselves than others. I wish our generation could just realize that the whole world doesn't revolve around me. I also wish that the people who are christians would live more like it. I don't know, it just makes me upset about how we live.
Love ya'll!I can't wait for the sleep over.

There are tons of influential people in the world so it would be hard to pick one person out!
Each person influences others in different ways being good or bad.
We are the influence,to everyone in the world. We influence other people on what we do or think.
Like if a kid grew up in the projects and lives around kids who smoke or drink, they're influencing others kids to do the same! As christians we try to influence other people and help them learn on what gods has done for us.We are all influential to each other and how we influence others is by our mistakes. You might have done something regretful and felt the pain of that mistake. So its our jobs to influence ther people so they dont make the same mistake and feel the same pain that you did. We all need each other to live. We set examples to the people of the world and we try each to help others out to make a peaceful community and world.
I recently was watching "Charlie Wilson's war". His influence to the people of Afghanistan is that he helped them drive the Soviets away so the people could live happily and not be afraid everytime they step out their doors afraid they'll get shot to death. Charlie had a huge influence on the Afghanistan people. Charlie also wanted to help the people out by helping them set up a new stable government so no one else would take over again. But the government didn't want to so what Charlie feared had happened. The Iraq war is just like the war of Afghanistan. Were trying to now slowly pick up the pieces and start over again. If we stay to finish the puzzle we can do alot to help. [sorry to get alittle off task =]
Some people view our generation as kind of self centered or as Shawna said "stuck on ourselves as if we only care about ourselves". In our generation were accustomed to get everything we want. Were sometimes whiney if we dont get it right away or your parents dont have money to buy it and you scream at them cause you didnt get it. (not all people are like that) Like the show on mtv, "My Super Sweet Sixteen". I can't stand watvhing that show. Theses spoiled kids have parties that could pay for tuition for college. Also that the kids get everything that they want like a Mercedes or Range Roover and theit still not satisfied. Thats how our generation is viewed. We get everything we want but were never satisfied.
I would like to see our generation be known as the one that wasn't perfect but tried to make it better. We all have to accept that were not perfect.Has a team we can learn each other strengths and weaknesses and we can help rebuild the world one step at a time!!!!
Can't wait to see everyone on the Mission Trip!!!
Abby :p
Hey everyone!
I can't really pick the most influential person in the world. There's so many amazing people who do so much to help, and there are also people who impact life in negative ways. Every person on earth is an influence and every action or word you speak influences someone or something in some way. It's our responsibilty to find out what is what God wants us to do and do it so we can be a good influence/light on others.
My biggest influence is my family. They basically influence almost every part of my life; my manners, how I present my self, how i talk and dress, etc. My 2 older sisters, Chrissy and Lindsay, are my best friends in the entire world even though there is a 9 year age difference, and they influence my personality a lot, which is a good thing because they are the best sisters ever, and they make good choices. My friends surprisingly hardly influence how I think. When I want something, I go for it, and I don't care what anyone except God thinks; I'm a really bull headed person.
To be an influencial person, you have to stand out from the crowd, if you're the same as everyone else, what good will that do?
You have to have a strong personality and not compromise your morals, because if you can't stand up for your morals, you'll fall for anything. What kind of impact will that make?
Others veiw our generation as being selfish, lazy, rude, and disrespectful. They are partly right, but nobody deserves to be labled as that, because eveyone can change and become a better influence in the world :)
I'd love it if others veiwed our generation as exactly the opposite of everything I just said in the previous paragraph :)

yea i kno last to the polls my bad!!-M.Swires
Man with all the peeps in the world its really hard to say who is and who isn't the most influential.Lots of peeps are in good and bad ways. I mean, everything we do or say has some influence on one person or another. The world has no leading infuencer it's just a gig tangle of a whole bunch of peeps who are vying to get the attention and control of the world. I know so many peeps who try to be a good influence so hard and then there's others who just do what they do and say what they say and just forget about it. Then there's others who really look at someone and say, "Wow, what could I have done better to give off a positive influence to him or her?" But in my opinion there's only two great influencers in the world... God and Jesus. That may be a suck up answer but i'm stickin to it.
My biggest influences ever would have to be my mom, grandpa, God, and Jesus. My mom and I have gone through a LOT together and I just don't know what I'd do without her. Ya see it was just me and her and my grandpa all my life...so I listen to her and soak up what she says and wisdom she gives me. I'll be realistic. I've only just begun to actually read the Bible in depth. And now I find that if I'm in a shaky situation all I have to do is slow down and listen to him in his teaching and through Jesus' teaching. He has helped me soooooooo much in keeping a level head in bad situations.
Hmmmmmmmmmm...What makes someone influential? Well, frankly nowadays that would be cash.Cold.Hard.Cash. Which is completely wrong but hey, what r u gonna do? But to be truly influential you have to touch the hearts of those around you and live like you know what you're leaving behind you. You must have charisma and poise, nobility and mercy. And in doing this, you show the blind man that if he digs deep inside himself he can truly see.See the world for what it is and maybe, just maybe, make it a little better by being a good influence on peeps'lives.
Our generation...stupid,useless,lazy,incompetant. People see us as the gen. who will make ruin upon the world. They see failure where there is success, greed where there is generosity, hopelessness where there is hope. Okay we all think about that and say "you're absolutely right!!" Most of the time peeps only ask 'What's in it for me?' We need to look past ourselves and see the bigger picture. There is much worse things than getting a C on a paper(I need to work on that) or losing a girlfriend. Oh well. Get over it. We will rise up and KILL THE MACHINES!!!!! NOT REALLY!! okay okay I'm serious now. we can and will show the world what we're made of.Just you wait and see.
Our generation should be branded as merciful and charismatic. Me, I'm a go getter. I say Lets do it! But I need to get a handle on that. We should be the gen. that has the guts and do what none has done to the world. SHARE THE LOVE OF GOD WITH HIS PEEPS! I want us to be branded as 'HOLY WARRIORS'. Kids that aren't afraid to stand up and say "Jesus loves you and you and you etc..." By doing this peeps will say "wow thy're doing what I would never in a million years would do...but wanna learn" We will be branded as God's 'Acolytes' of his word.

Hey this is Josh Lingenhoel
Just wanted to say this looks like a great book. Thanks JDH!
1.I think the most influential person in the world right now is Bill or Franklin Gramm. They reach millons with allof their ministrys. Theres samaritians purse, d2bd, their televised brodcasts and the list goes on. I hope I can be half as influential as them.
2. My biggest influence is probably Pastor Herb Owen (inspired me to become a youth pastor) and my dad (taught me almost everything).
3. Being influential is a mindset more than any thing else. If you believe in what you support and follow it full heartedly than someones bound to be effected. Its just like Jesus said 'If you have faith you can move mountains'. If you put your faith in changeing the world its gonna change. be it a little or alot it will change. anyone can make a difference.
4.Most adults think we're lazy, techno freaked, media obbsesed Rebels whos only infunce will be how rich we can make them by buying their products. Those idiots. If they lead us we could do so much more. (sorry I just needed to get that out:>) some adults are good though. Mainly teachers or Youth pastors or adults who really know our generation. I say let's stick it to all those geisers who think we're no good. Let's solve all the big problems then they'll see whose lazy!!!!(sorry again)
5. Like i said in Q4 let's show them we're better than them because we get to learn from their mistakes. If we all had faith we could do anything. they want to prejudge us than fine let im. When its our turn to run the world they'll know whose lazy.
Thanks for readin this you've been a great audience. I'll be back on may 24 for more comments. bye
P.S. Eric or JDH it'd be really cool to share these Blogs at EHKOS or 24E. there's some great stuff here. PPLLEEAASSEE!!!!!!!
it's Ashton.W.
well i just wanted to start out saying that there are many influencetial people in this world, it just depends on who you are and your personality... i mean if u love sports then the person who would most influence you would be someone who is famous for a sport(for whatever that sport may be). Well the person who is most influencetial to me would have to be my grandpa. He means the world to me and we do everything togeather. I take whatever he has to say to heart. The other person who is influencetial to me would have to be my best friends. I know that "your friends shouldn't be the best influencetial" but they are to me. I can lission to them and we can understand each other. They mean so much to me and they go through the same stuff at around the same time and it's hard to explan. but they would have to be some of the most influevcetial in my life. I think what makes you an influence in someones life depends on your personality and how your personality interacts with the personality of the person your influenceing. You can be anyone you want to be and influence someone. Now weather your a good influece or bad influence is the question.
I dont know what people think of our generation because in our generation we all are diffrent. Over all i think they think of us as "the future". for some reason they think we are the begining of a new life. Weather thats good life or bad well thats up to you. i don't really know.
I don't think that we are branded because we are all so diffrent frome oneanother. I mean you have a little of all the brands in our generation. You have the preps, jocks, popular, geeks, nerds, goths, emoes, and so many more. WE all are mixex togeather in one generation. I think there are people though how are nicer to other people who aren't in there "group". In our generation the "group" dosn't really matter that much. i mean i don't even have a group i am friends with every group at my school. i'm more friends with the jocks but never the less i'm friends with everyone. I dont' think there is one person at my school who hates me. So really the "groups" at are school dont really matter. your friends to whoever you want to be. Are generation doesn't really have a "group" name its just a little bet of everything and i think thats the best. it wouldn't be fun if everyone was the same and liked the same stuff. Would it?
Aaron
Who do you think is the most influential person in the world?
I think the most influential person in the world today is Bono of U2.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
Kurt Cobain and my friends.
What makes someone influential?
A good role model that isn’t just like that for publicity.
How do others view your generation?
Our generation is viewed as the violent drugy generation.
How do you wish your generation were branded?
I wish our generation was branded as the kind, non-lazy, and non-racist generation.
so, yeah. it's cody.
The most ifluential person in the world? hmm... tough. well, my first thought was jesus. :P I first threw that away because it's an obvious church answer and because it just seems to obvious. but as I dug deeper, I thought of satan. he definetley has a good influence on quite a few people (sorry that I have no idea how to spell the word definetley)! I mean, those who are not christians (which is a lot of the world's population) are under the influence of satan. so I would say satan has the biggest influence on people.
him, or chuck norris.
Who are some of my biggest influences? probably of course my parents, because they raise me and basically control a chunk of my life. but again, cliche. (again, can't spell.) so I might have to say my friends. or actually, just people around me. they basically tell me what they think of me 24/7, whether it be through compliments, criticism, or body language. even complete strangers have an influence on my life, just by how they act and what they do. also, probably my teachers. they too tell me how to live and what to do, just like my parents.
what makes someone influential? well, everything! if they even come in contact with you, they become influential. if someone were to come up to me and tell me that they liked my shoes or hated my jeans, I would possibly change my jeans and keep my shoes. it's basically how someone acts towards you that tells whether or not they are influrential.
How do others view my generation? I really wouldn't know, seeing as I am my generation. I haven't really gotten a general survey together, but from what my grandmother tells me (dear ol' granny!) we seem to be a technology loving generation. She is constantly amazed by the fact that my dad can fit four songs on his iPod. (I'm constantly amazed that my dad only had 4 songs on his Ipod At one point.) also, I think shawna would be right in saying that we are a "what's in it for me" kind if generation. I myself just today blew off a task because I "technically" was never assigned to do it. and that's just today! And now that I think of it, I was talking to an old woman and she said she can't understand why all her friends said that our generation was awful. so there you go.
How do I wish my generation was branded? well... you asked for it!
I really wish my generation was branded as a loving generation. (or a dancing one. ;) ) I mean, not only do I wish that we were branded that way, I wish we were as a whole that way. Our generation isn't the best at loving one another, or even being nice to one another. but our generation seems more like a generation of, well, not hate, but general dislike. But I don't know why. is it so hard to love?
p.s.- I don't think we needed warned that your comment would be long. you're just like that!:)
Heather C.
There are different people all
around the world that influence other peaple. Pastors, teachers, and parents are some people that have influences pn people. Each person can influence people in different ways. If people have been given the ability to
influence people they should use that ability to influence others.
My parents and grandparents have influenced me. They influence me in many ways. A couple things that they have done to influence me is by what they teach me. Second way they influenced me is
how they have always been there for me when I need them. Third way they have influenced me is they try to make the best decisions for me and my siblings and I admire that. Last way is hey just have all the love in the world for me and my siblings and they want us to be God loving kids.
There are different types of influences. Influences could be good or bad. When I think of a good influence I think of someone who wants the best for you. Also is some one youcan look up to. Then bad influences are the complete oposite.
When people talk about our
generation they refer us as lazy. They also think of our generation as self centered.
What I want people to relize
that their aren't just lazy and self centered people that there are "good" people to. Also that these "good" people are helpfull, kind, and responsible people who want to help other people. And I hope that in the future more people would relize this and I hope
there will be more "good" poeple in the world.
-Heather C.-
whoa, sorry. I think I accidentaly posted mine twice.
The most influential person in the world to me is Jesus. I know that’s totally a churchy answer, but honestly it’s what I believe. There are so many great people in the world but they never measure up. I may be expecting too much of us or just ignorant of what other people have done. But here’s why I think Jesus is the most influential. 2008 years after Jesus’ birth people are still taking about him. So many hear his name and believe; and still many hear his name and don’t believe. Even though not everyone believe most have heard his name and story, so He’s had some influence in there life.
My biggest influences are my friends, people I see and know, and the books I read. Not all of my influences are good influences. Most of the time I’m not good influence. Yet, despite all that I usually prefer the bad influence because for me I can learn more that way. [Not being a bad influence but what happens when people (others or I) mess up.] I’m dyslexic and the program that taught me how to read had you say at the beginning end of each lesson say “Mistakes are opportunities to learn,” and other quotes similar. That’s how I learn best, through mistakes. There not always mine but the lesson is still there. Actually now that I think about it the guy who wrote the program, Don McCabe, is pretty influential in my life. Without him I probably wouldn’t be reading or typing. His quote “Mistakes are opportunities to learn,” guides my life more than I ever realized it did.
What makes someone influential? I have to agree with Zach if you’re popular or famous you are going to be influential. Yet, I also think the fact of just plain living in society you’re an influence. The schools have pounded into are brains for years the little kids look up to you. It’s true. There’s always someone who looks up to you; even if you don’t believe it.
Other view my generation as Zach said badly. They see our flaws and act as if we are the first to commit such wrong doings. Yet, I still know of others that see are power, talent, and the difference we can make.
I have no idea how I want my generation to be branded. I obviously don’t want it to be “THE HORRIBLE 90’s KIDS” or some bad like that. Yet at the same time I don’t want to be the best. I guess that’s something I need to figure out about myself and what I want. Or what God wants me to want.

Hey, when i think of the most influential people in the world i think athletes. For example LeBron james, i see him everywhere, shirts, sports drinks, shoes, gum, and kids look up to him. Then there are actors and singers, who kids look up to and sometimes when i watch the news they are sometimes messing up, so i would honestly have to say they are bad influences.
Someone who has influenced me would have to me my brother Shawn, he is six years older than me and has seen it all.He has answer for everyone of my questions, and a solution for everyone of my problems.so whenever i have a problem and hes sees me struggling he will sit me down and talk with me about it, and i always feel better about the situation when we are done talking. I think everyone has an influence like that brother, sister, cousin, mom and dad etc.
I think are generation today has the energy and the willingness to help and put help and thought into problems today, i just think they don't know where to start and it can be overwhelming. so people should not think of us as worthless kids who are not helping out at all, i just think that they need to give us a chance and a motive for helping with problems.well thats all i have to sayy,
kevin s.
I think that everyone influences someone in some way even if it is in a small way. I think that the most influential people in this world depends on what kind of person you are. For example, if you are an athlete,it may be a famous athlete. I also think that many people can be influential in a bad way. For example, many famous celebrities can be pretty influential but in a bad way. But I think the most influential people, good or bad, are probably your family members. Someone like a parent, aunt, uncle, or grandparent. I also think that friends and peers your age are some of the most influential people in the world too.
Some of my biggest influences are my parents and my friends. First of all, my parents are always there for me no matter what. Both are hardworking and determined. They encourage me in everything they do and teach me not to give up on things. They are also Godly people and show me how important it is to be in the word of God.
My friends are very influential too. They too encourage me in everything I do. They are always there for me. They also a lot of times influence my decisions. If they don't think it would be a good idea then I usually listen to them. On the other side, if they think something is a good idea they tell me to go for it.
I think you are influential if you make some sort of an impact on someones life. I think everyone is influential in this way though. Saying one thing to someone could influence their decision. I think you are a good influence if you encourage people to do good things and make good decisions.
I think some others view our generation as lazy, selfish, and reckless. Others though, view our generation as a generation who can help to change the world.
I wish our generation could be a little more caring and actually pay attention to some of the stuff going on in the world. Instead of focusing all our attention and time on ourselves we need to reach out to others who really need it. I wish we could all be branded as God-following people who can really help.
-Cassie T.-
There are alot of influential people in the world.
Some more than others in good and bad ways.I really can't say who is the most influential person in the world cause there are so many. People on TV seem have alot of influence because they are seen by so many.
Some of my biggest influences in my life are the people i work with who are alot older than me (by like 40 years)and they know whole lot more than i do about most everything i am interested in like farming ,mechanics and all that stuff and they are really good ,Godly people. What makes someone influential is pretty much everything they do.What they say and do, how they act and what their attitude is..and that could be for good or bad. The older people get , the more influence they have on younger people. Alot of people view our generation as
self-centered and having a bad attitude. And alot of that is just because we are teenagers but still that is no excuse to not do what the Bible says. That's why we need older people to be good influences on us. I wish our generation could be viewed as more godly ,unselfish and respectful and more mature.
Daniel A.
@ Shawna...liked what you said a lot about how we're all influential. we each have the potential to be influential & the responsibility that comes along with it. you're right that we're not all perfect (and we shouldn't try to act like it), though i think, too, that we probably shouldn't use that as an excuse to not try to do better. great thoughts about the need to not be so self-centered.
@ Taylor...right on about parents being a big influence. even when we don't want to admit it, they are. and that's usually a good thing. very cool you have sisters that are such good influences, too.
@ Gary...why do you think some people view your generation that way? can you think of examples that are different? how can you change that perception?
@ Steve...good thought that we have to think not only about who influences us but also about who we influence.
@ Hailee...we are all role models for someone...that's so true. hopefully thinking about who influences us helps us to think about the kind of influence we want to be. good thoughts.
@ Desi...great writing! i'm glad you're enjoying the book. i think what you said about words & music was especially right on. keep writing like that & your voice will be heard!
@ Ben...really good thoughts. we're going to talk & experience some of the stuff you talked about toward the end, like getting a bigger picture for the world & realizing the good stuff we have when we get together for our overnighter at the end of the month. looking forward to it!
@ Brooke..."Grandpa touched many people's lives as he strolled down the path of life, leaving a holy trail behind him." that's a great sentence...and it's cool to see you write about the influence he had on you.
@ Elise...glad you're enjoying the book : ). i think you're right about how we look up to people who are confident in themselves. there's a difference between being prideful & confident and it's good to be confident. especially for those of us who call ourselves Christians...we have good reason for confidence...because Christ stands with us. and through him we influence others for God.
@ Noel...i remember when the shooting happened that Cassie died in. i was in high school then and it was all over the news. a lot of us really were challenged to think about how we'd stand up for our faith.
@ Brandon...good thoughts on putting other's needs first. definitely something worthwhile for us to keep in mind as a team in Boston!
@ Special K...i'm stoked you're willing to "Be the Change" : ). very cool you have teachers who are willing to support you as well. i think what you had to say about hope was right on.
@ Sam...i'm pumped for the trip, too! though was that "Go Boston!" at the end about the trip or the Celtics? cause only Cavs fans are allowed around here ; ). i think you're right that celebrities have so much influence. the interesting thing is that they don't have to pass some sort of test or anything to get that influence, they just have to be famous. which is why we should always be careful to think about who's influencing and why. because no one else is going to check our influences for us. we have to do it.
@ Jon...i just finished reading a biography of MLK Jr. & learned so much more that i had never known. he truly was a great man and a good person to model yourself after.
@ the Laurenator...you're right...God absolutely can change people's lives through us. which is why we should live every day for him (and rock out in Boston when we have the chance, too!)
@ Antwoine...i think your comment about two kinds of influence is pretty thoughtful and right on. good stuff, bro.
Joel that GO BOSTON!!!!! was about the trip.
LOL, Samuel Hill
@ Abby...right on with your last comment about how as a team we can watch out for each other's strengths and weaknesses. definitely something to strive for!
@ Jenna...a lot of people don't realize how much influence their family has on them. that's cool that you do & that they're such good influences.
elijah said...
the most influencial people in my life is friends and family. friends are always there for you and parents are always there to help you when you need it.
I can influence others by being a good christian, and by helping others. like I mow my grandma's grass every week and hopefully it would show other neighbor kids that they can help their older relatives.
other people might think that our generation won't get too far in life, but I wish that our generation could someday be successful at whatever we choose do. for example, I wish that doctors wouldn't just work for money and success but try to work harder at curing diseases and helping people who don't have the money to pay for their doctor bills.
Hey everyone! It's skittle or as most people know me Hayden.
Most influential person...
To be honest anyone you have ever met can be influential to you. People around you will have an effect on at anytime. Sometimes that can be a bad effect, which can lead you down a bad path. Back to the point, everyone around you affects you and you can affect everyone around you. Lots of influences, not neccassasarily (sorry can't spell)good ones, are celebrities. People want to be like movie stars and they'll do what they can to reach that. Even it's a bad choice.
My Influences...
First off, obviously my parents. They're people I see everyday and se what they do, how they act, and how they feel. You grow seeing everything they do and you depend on them through everything. Some others are people like you Joel, Eric and other leaders. I see, like Eric, even if you've had hard times through your life, you can grow up to be a great leader and an influence on people. Someone even as simple as my good friend Josh L., who will probably be posting on this later. He is a great friend, great person, and a great christian. He doesn't try to be like everyone wants him to be like and stays true to his beliefs
To many people in our world have large influences. I think that one of the most influential people in the world is our president. Many people look to him to make important decisions. With that power people look at him and do some of the same things because he did it.
Some of the most influential people in my life are my parents and my teachers. I think that things such as life style, money, and possesions can make someone an influence. My mom is such a big influence on me. Sometimes i think that she secretly is wonder woman. she does everything and anything. No matter what happenes she is always there for me.
I think that my generation is veiwed as the hope of the future. But then again almost every generation is. But my generation is more than that. We are veiwed as different and probably spoiled rotten. I beleive that we are considered spoiled because when mom waslittle she had 2 walk to school a mile up hill both ways. she also never went on family vacations because she was the youngest of seven girls.
So if i had to summarize my generation in two words they would be difference makers. Who knows our generation could find the cure for cancer or find a way to live on the moon or on mars.If everyone told themselves they can make a difference who knows what would happen.
hmm..... i think maybe the most influential person in the world is... i dont think theres just one person cuz i guess it all sorta depends on your vantage point, like people over here in american might find some crazy athlete influential but for people in like india it could be someone we've never even heard of over here.
some of my biggest influences..... im probably most influenced by my family and my friends the most. i think what makes someone influential is sorta like someone i see acting this way, and i sorta set myself up to act the same way.
i think others view my (yes mine) generation as sorta like, caffeine fueled and violent. i dont think its really that bad but i guess if you compare it to past generations sure. i kinda wish this generation was branded as... i duno... kinder.... nicer.... stuff like that
-eric m./ezmac
Hey everybody I feel really bad cause mines really late sorry I've been gone all week!
I think the author of Be the Change Zach Hunter has now become a big influence to the world. He was only 15 when he wrote this book OMG!!!!!!!! I'm very inspired by him. I think all the pastors and missionaries throughout the world are big influences to everbody. Sadly there are not all good influences in our world!
Some of the people in my life who inspire me are my parents, my brother and sister. Also my aunt and uncle who take care of my Grandma they are major influences in my life because they gave up everything for my grandma who has memory loss. Another person who really influences my life is my brother in law to be Joe, I love this guy to death. He cares so much about me and says I'm never allowed to date or get married or even talk to a guy. My bro Matt could care less about what happens to me!!!!!!!! Joey is one of the strongest christians I know and has really inspired me.
I think what makes someone influential is that they care enough about a person and they are very important in your life. I'm influenced by people I know and love but I'm also influenced by christian artists who reach out to others throughout the world. An influential person can make good or bad decisions and other people are effected by that. (fyi I make no sence!!!!!!!!!)
I have to agree with what the world is saying OUR GENERATION IS A SPOILED BRATT!!!!!!!!! We do mothing for ourselves half the time, no offence to america hahhaha. We are always thinking of our self, ALWAYS. Not everyone is like this but a big percent is.
I wish our generation was known for trying to make it better! Nobodys perfect but there are some things that need to change in the world and I wish our generation would change, some things.
Sorry about the spelling and stuff like that hahahaha I'm sooooo excited for the trip and cant wait to see u all!!!!!
luv Holly B.
Edit: Sorry First Post got screwed up. Trying again

He doesn't try to be like everyone wants him to be like and stays true to his beliefs.
Makes some influential...
Anyone's words, actions and everything else they do can make them influential. Just seeing people doing good makes me automatically like that person and I wanna be like them.
Others view us as...
SELFISH!!! That's all I have to say. Everything you see is how to make "you" better. Make "you" lose weight, "you" make money. Everything has to be about YOU!!!!!
My wished brand...
I wish our generation was a more giving generation instead of a taking generation. LIke I said earlier, it's all about us when God called us to m put others before us.
Thanks For reading. Can't wait till Boston!!!!
heyyy this is tonya b :]
so the first question is whos the most influential person in the world. and i know you guys already knew that, but im repeating it for my own sake :] ha. and well to me i think the most influential person to someone is their best friend. its someone they are always around, and if you ever noticed, after a while after becoming csomeones best freind, they start to act and become alot like eachother. if they started out having different tastes in music, they soon like the same kind. And they also start liking the same things, and even talking the same. which leads to the second question, who are some of my biggest influences.
My biggest influence in the world is my best freind. Like its kinda wierd, cuz without even realizing it, if she thinks somethings kool, then after a while i think its kool. And i mean i know thats not a good thing, but its true. and ive began to notice it alot within my group of friends. My biggest influence though if tyra banks. Shes an amazing person, who didnt come out of a rich family, who wasnt always teh skinniest, beautiful person, but still made sumthing of herself, and let her inner beauty make her beautiful. Plus, even when she wasnt the skinniest, or prettyest, she always had confidence. and also, she doesnt let things get to her, but doesnt let people walk all over her either. She doesnt care what the tabliods say, or what people think of her, shes herself and people still love her.
And i think what makes someone influential, is someone whos different. like i mean not in a bad way, but different in a way that everyone wants to be that kind of different. Like I think that people kinda get tired of the way they are sometimes, and they wanna be different, so they look at those different people and think, " thats different, i wanna be like that." So then they just kinda try and be like that person, and look up to that person. ha, i just realized i used the word different bout...7 times there. haha sry bout that :]
and many people view our generation as...well...disrespectful, out of control, and just kinda...trashy followers. And i mean i wish i could say that our generation should be branded as successful, outgoing, smart generation of people who are going to be remembered for doing sumthing good, but the truth is, were really not. i mean, most kids growing up nowadays look up to rappers who are talking innapropriatly bout modern day things [[which im not against rap, i listen to it, but i definatly DONT approve of kids looking up to it.haha.]] and schools now have to have cops in every building, even the elementary schools, just because of the way kids are today. And the thing is, i think our generation could be known as the most amazing one ever, but its gonna take something big to change it. And i think just a few ordinary people like us could atart changing it, maybe by just maybe hangin wit a group of kids you usually don hang wit, and just bein a good person around them and showin them hwo to be aa good person, and be a good influence for all the people around you.
Sup. this is LEEEBBOOO!!
i think the most influential piople this world are celebrities like athletes, bands, and actors. They are big influences because people of all ages look up to them.
This is why it is so important for them to help out and think about regular people.
celebrities could make such a big difference in this world if they thought of other people first. That is why i'm glad that we have people like Jon Foreman of switchfoot, Leeland Mooring of leeland, and Dan Haseltine of Jars of Clay, because they think and care about other people before theselves.
i think people view our generation as selfish and always thinking of ourselves. teens today always have to have the latest ipod of cell phone and always think tat they have to dress like everyone else does to be cool or fit in. we as teens need to stand out and make a change in this world. we need to also put others needs before ours and obey our parents with no exceptions. we need to be more respectful to our elders and help others in need. if we did these things i think we would make a tremendous change for the better.
peace out homies. David L.
Ayyy everyone. Hi to all my peeps that I haven't in foreverrr. =]
Aight, even though we're not really far in da book yet, I think it's great. Aaaand I still can't believe it's written by a 15-year-old!! Like whoaa, mind blowin.
Most influential person in the world. Hmmmm. Thats a tuffy. Well, honestly, in my opinion, our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ. I mean, c'mon! EVERYYONNEE'S heard of him. Everyone knows at least like, one thing he's done.
He's probably the most influential person to me as well. I mean, what can I say? He's all over.=] ahaha We run into him everywhere, and ALL the time. And I LOVE IT! He's not just an influence, he's my savior, he's my mentor, my parent, and my best friend. I can trust him with everything.
What makes someone influential. In my case, it's someone I look up to or want/aspire to be like. Someone who does the things I wish I could do. Like Emily Bear, or Freddie Mercury. After reading those couple chapters, I kinda think that maybe Zach could be an influence on me. Not only does he have good views, he's working to his fullest to fulfill God's will for him. And he's my age!! I don't know about you but I find that pretty amazinggg.
But in short, I think someone who influences you in someone you can look up and aspire to be like.
How do people view my generation. (Generation by Hawk Nelson just popped into my head. haha)Well, idk if I'm an average teenager or anything, but what I think is a teenager is a younger looking adult. We make mistakes, and we have our ups and downs. We are hyper, we are shy, we are loud, we are quiet, we are mature, we are immature, we are dumb, we are smart, we are confident, and we are scared.
Honestly, I don't know how our generation is viewed. At least not by adults. How I see it, is it's a time to be free. We don't have jobs, our license, or a family to take care of. We're figuring out who we are. We are changing every day. I don't think MY generation can be labeled. It's indifferent. No ones the same and that's JUST the way I like it. (I think that kinda answers the next question too)
I can be influenced really easily. It's kinda hard to explain. But even if I spend a couple minutes with certain friends I start to get influenced. Weird, I know. But it's just me. But it's not always good influences. I've been drugged into doing awful things because of the influence of others.
In the second paragraph in Shawna's comment, that's kinda like me too. i've struggled with the WORST depression problems ever. I had a good way of hiding them. I felt worthless, and I think it might've been because of the influences of other people. I did suffer from SI and it was an addiction. (I'm all better now =]) I want my family, my good friends, and Jesus to be my only influences. Not PEOPLE Magazine or America's Next Top Model.
I want to be an individual.
I want to be ME and NO one else.
(ps.I'm a really random typer so sorry if none of this makes sense. ahah)
Mads:)
My comment was just fashionable late xP

I believe that some of the most influential people in the world are Godly people and people who look to God for answers. Whenever tough times come then you should look to God for the answers and the guidance to get through it and people who do that are people that i look up to. Some qualities that an influential person needs to have are...being a leader and not a follower, and also willing to accept change and help adapt to that change because God is going to fill your life with ups and downs and you need to have the strength go get through it.
Our generation needs to preech the word of God at an early age because it seems that the world is changing but not for the better. If we help to spread the word of God then maybe the world can change for the better. I admit that i could definately do better at this but I'm sure all of us could.
Hey Joel...so far this is a sweet book and this, i feel, will definately help me on my way to be a better Christian and to spread the word of God. Thanks homie!!!
~Luc Luc
There are so many people who have made a huge influence in the world. I cannot just choose one individual person who is the biggest influence! There are two ways many people have influenced our lives. There is the good way and there is the bad! The most influential people in the world i think is everyone because no matter what you do you have influence on someone in some way. So to be honest everyone is a huge influence to our society. The biggest influences in my life are my parents. My parents are my biggest influence because they have taught me what right from wrong is and pretty much everything i know right now. I think everybodys parents are a big influence even though it might not be in a good way everybodys parents have an influence on them.
What makes someone influential is that they are looked up to by many other people like a role model. Also i think to be influential you must have gained respect.
I think many people of this country and world think of this generation as lazy, self centerd, and like we dont care about what is going on around the world. It seems like everyone thinks that all we want to do is party and live for the moment not caring what might happen after the fact. To some this is very true. Some people really dont care what is going on, they are lazy and self centerd. But me, i am not these things i do care what is going on and i do want to make an impact in the world. I want to be remembered by people i want to help make a differance. I want this generation to be branded as the generation who helped change the world little by little. i want to be known as the ones who spoke out and helped worls and community issues.
<3 maddie f.
@ Elijah...i liked your example of doctors. i think it's good for all of us to consider why we do things...just for ourselves or for others & their benefit.
@ Hannah...i like your "two word sum up." and i totally believe it's true!
@ Cody...i really think it is hard to love. at least true, good, God sort of love. to love unconditionally & absolutely is thoroughly challenging. but that doesn't mean you shouldn't strive for it. i really like the brand you're hoping for...go for it!
Hey Joel, sorry i am late, i sent u an email telling u i couldn't post them on time. but i guess i could have already posted the answers, i thought i had to DO them on sunday... oops, my bad. here they are:
that's a tough one. there are sooo many influential peoples in this world, and too just name one person is impossible, there are alot of people who are more influential than others, but i dont know who is the most influential person in the world. if i had to pick someone, from all history who ever lived, it would be Jesus (even tho he wasn't just a man). he influenced millions and many more.
my biggest influences are my friends and family, i'm not that good at making decisions, so i usually go to a friend, but then there are those decisions about friends, so i go to family. i cant really define an influential person. but if i did it would be someone who is a leader, is wise, and has a goal to be accomplished.
alot of people view my generation as a very stubborn, spoiled, dumb, and rebellious generation. i think that our generation should be a generation that is pure, serves God and others, and listens to authorities. i dont like the way we are branded because we are better than that. i know a lot of people who will just look at a teenager walking around on the street and expect them to be doing something bad.
Tyler K.
I don't think that one person alone has the most influence on the world. Unfortunately money has a lot of influence on the modern world, (and in the entire history of the world for that matter) So everyone can be bribed or influenced by it.
My biggest influences are probably my parents, grandparents, and other family members. Our family has gotten through some really tough/tight times together, and my family's ability to love and forgive is a +! Some of my friends are also inspiring to me, mainly because I've done/said stupid things to them, and yet they still call me a friend. They also know how wierd I can be sometimes, and they still admit our friendship. When my dad lost his job, I knew my friends were praying for a better oppotunity for us. Many of my past and present teachers have also been an influence in my life. The ones that really stick out are Paster Herb, Mr. Bussey, Matt, Ross Dorsett, and if I kept going this comment would be the longest of them all.
I think what makes someone influential is by the fact that they are always there for you, always listen to your groaning, and try to help out as much as they can. My friends, family, and teachers are all supportive and helpful. When I have a problem that I can't solve on my own, I know that they'll try to help me. I've mainly said all of the things most people would say, but I'll add my own. To me, someone who is influential doesn't put on different faces when or when they aren't around you. They aren't "fake" friends, they're really there. This may sound wierd, but take Sam Wise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings for example. Sam was by Frodo's side from the very begining. He was always looking out for Frodo, and he tried to convince Frodo that Gullum was playing the part of the "fake friend" Even when Frodo told Sam to go home, and that he didn't need/want him anymore, although he cried, (as would anyone) Sam came back, and saved Frodo in the end. Someone like Sam Wise Gamgee can be VERY influential because he never puts on a fake face.
I believe that the reputation of our generation really "Started" with the Hippies. The deffinition of Hippies (at least in my history text book) were young men who got drunk, grew their hair long (longer than was "normal" for that time at least) Had wild parties, worked hard to break the rules, never obeyed anything, etc etc. The Hippies of yesterday gave birth to the "spirit of rebellion" which has "evolved" uncontrolably for years into our generation we have today.
I wish that our generation had a different brand, yes. But I also enjoy having the brand we currently have. I know you're probably thinking I'm nuts, but let me finish. I enjoy having our current brand so that we can prove to people that they are totally wrong. What is the best way to learn? By making mistakes. I have no idea what the name of the study was, but this study showed that people learn quicker by making mistakes, not by doing things the right way. So, if we go on a missions trip, for this group to Boston, and we prove people wrong, that maybe our brand will change quicker.
Hey everyone:D
Sorry mine is super oober late:/
I didnt even know about this place till yesterday when joel mentioned it at church becuz i never read the paper that tells you bout the website.i feel really stupid
>.<
but yeah,
As most of you already mentioned,I dont think there is one actual person who is the most influential. But I do think that in some way or the other we influence someone.I dont mean we change peoples whole lifestyles i just mean that we effect people in some way, even with a simple smile.so i dont think there is one greatest influence.i think everyones an influence, whether they're trying to be or not.
My biggest influences would be the people i meet at random places and the people im with everyday. When i see someone who's successful or popular or happy,i tell myself,i wanna be just like him or her.and then i start thinking to myself what would they do.just like what would Jesus do except with a different name. Now sometimes that can be bad becuz when i let someone influence me they could make me form bad habits and make me a bitter person.but i know that if i surround myself with the right people (for example, the kids from the chapel:) then i know that i'll be just fine and that my attitude will be a good one and one for God
I think that in some way everyone is influential. But it all depends on your situation and who you look up to.When someone looks at your life and and the way you live, and if they want what you have, they're going to somehow take a little piece of influence from you.influences can be anyone from a lazy person who watches tv all day or someone in college with good grades.whoever you are,you influence someone in some way.it could be the way you talk,or the way you walk,or even the way you read.almost anything you do is influential.and the only way to not be under an influence of someone is make your own opinions,be yourself, and make up your mind on what choices you want to make and not letting others opinions make the decision for you.
There is so many opinions on what people think of our generation. Some are positive and and good, and others are negative and seem mean. But when i hear what people have to say about it,most of their answers are very true. One opinion of my own that i always say to myself about our generation is that its immature.Kids my age in the U.S think of themselves wayy to much, are extremely spoiled, and take sooo many things for granted. But i mean, that doesnt count for everyone, but the majority of teens ive met act exactly like that.and its sad,but true.
I wish that people would be able to say that our generation is caring, loving, and most of all, reliable.we cant be actually given that name becuz to many teens are lousy and rely on everything but themselves.I wish i was able to just rely on myself, but i cant.Without God's reliability we are nothing.so yeah,i wish our generation could be given a good brand, but truly, our generation is both bad and good so we cant be given an exact name
anyways...Im sorry again for being so late and I cant wait to see you all this coming wednesday[:
-Hannah<3
I don't really think that there is one person who influences everyone in the world. I mean, if someone likes basketball, LeBron might inspire and influence them.
Some of the biggest influential people in my life are my parents and friends mainly because they believe in the same things that I believe in and they like most of the stuff that I like. We are also around each other alot and usually whoever you're around you become like.
I think people view our generation as stuck-up, lazy, stuborn, and bold. But to me, boldness can be considered good and bad. A bold generation can change the world- for the good and for the worse. A bold generation is not afraid of the future because we are (or think) we are ready for it. Our generation is also branded as the computer and video game generation. This is both a good and bad thing. Being a computer generation is good because it makes life a lot easier. But on the bad side, they can take away from our lives, become an idol, and replace God in our lives.
I wish our generation was viewed as the generation that could and will change the world- for the good. I also wish that our genereation would be looked at as(and be) humble and serving, if we had that kind of encouragement from our parents, we really could make a difference.

@ Mason..."But to be truly influential you have to touch the hearts of those around you and live like you know what you're leaving behind you." i love this sentence (and the rest of the paragraph that follows it. great stuff, bro. Also, keep digging into the Word...sounds like you're really growing!
@ Josh L...I think the Graham's have been an incredible influence and in some pretty different ways, too. which just goes to show that God can & will work through different generations to spread his Word. and good idea about sharing these...we'll have to figure out how to do that...this is some good stuff!
@ Ashton...i think individuality is really important. i like how you show that people can break down barriers & that we don't have to fit into stereotypes. we'd all be better off if we did more to bridge gaps than to make them.
@ Aaron...good thought about influence and how it's important that people aren't just in it for publicity. part of being influential is being authentic. it's being true to who you are and not just putting on a show for others. right on.
@ Heather...sounds like your parents have been an awesome influence on you. if you haven't recently, you should take some time to tell them that!
@ Abby...it's so important that we learn from our mistakes like you said, and not just let them get us down and keep us from trying again. we gotta get up after we get knocked down & keep going.
@ Kevin...my brother's been a really big influence in my life, too (he's 4 years older than me). it's always good to learn from someone who's a little further along in life than we are.
@ Cassie...i think you're right in that we all make an impact on people's lives around us. the question is what kind of impact are we going to make...good or bad. hopefully our trip to Boston will be a chance for us to impact some people's lives for the better.
@ Daniel...you're right on when you say that's it's everything that we do is what makes us influential or not. it's not like we can break our lives up into little pieces and have some parts good & some bad and expect people to be cool with that. we need to live the whole of our lives as honestly & authentically as possible.
okay well sorry guys this is really late
welllll... i dont really think any one person is the most influential in this world its always who has the better idea or most revolutionary whatever sparks change from the bad bad stuff but right now i believe that the presidential candidates are the most influential people because whatever they say or stand for can change the future of the world not just the United States but that also makes the voters influential because the President hinges on what the people say, so in a way we are the most influential
My biggest influence is probably my friends because my day to day decisions has so much do with my friends. Like what im going to wear so they will think im cool and how to make them respect me more. But an influence on my life as a whole would hav to be my parents because what they say can change my entire outlook on anything
Someone is influential if they have people who believe in them and follow them cuz without people you cant be influential
Our generation just like most new generations is all bad, every single one of us just cuz we do things different. I know personally at our school we are considered the worst class ever at our school. I think thats mostly because we are extremely
opinionated and original thinkers
I want our generation to be branded as the ones to change thinking and question things that need to be questioned and change what needs to b changed because i believe we can do that
@ Eric...tell me more about this "stuff like that" you want to be known as. kinder, nicer, those are good starts, but "stuff like that" is pretty general. if we're gonna re-brand your generation, we gotta know what we're shooting for. i'm interested to hear your thoughts.
@ Holly...i think you're right on that Zach's become a big influence. and the awesome thing is that that means anyone who posts on here could be just as big of an influence. because you're all close to his age & have great thoughts, ideas, and hopes. now just to live them out & influence those around you!
@ Hayden...selfish...hmmm...so true. don't worry, though. it's not only your generation that's selfish. it seems to be a human thing. really good observation, though. and i think if we were more like what you wish we were branded as (giving) then that would really do a lot to address our selfishness, don't you think?
i can't really pick just one influential person because there r so many. i think that athletes, actors, or even the bands we listen 2 r really influential because many people lookup 2 them.
people who influence me the most r my friends and family because im around them so much, and because they impact me a lot by the way they act and even talk.
i think something that makes an influential is having an impact in someone's life. like if you have younger brothers and sisters, they probably look up to u.
i think our generation is branded as people who r selfish and only think of themselves. i wish we were branded more like the people who care and help others.
Since the question asks who the most influential person in the world is, I would have to say Billy Graham since probably most people living in our country and Europe plus other places know who he is. He is an unusual man who loves to preach and thousands of people over the last fifty years or so would go to hear him in big arenas or outdoor sports stadiums. He has won many people to Christ through his preaching. He preaches in a way that almost anyone can understand. He is old and not well now, but he still is influencing people through his books and through TV shows that were made some years ago. He probably has led more people to Christ than any other man either alive or from the past.
People that have been an influence to me are both in my family and in my school and sports. My grandmother has influenced me by helping me to be a better Christian by the live she lives as an example. I had a reading teacher who was also my basketball coach named Mr. Casey. He has influenced me by encouraging me to practice so that I can play the game better and become a better athlete. This has taught me the importance of practice to improve and I can apply that to other areas of my life.
@ tonya...we are called to be different, just like you suggested. Christ sets us apart and calls us to live differently, not just in a push-other-people-away sort of way, but in a follow-me-to-better-life sorta way.
@ Lebo...i think the three guys you listed as influences are all great guys because they're not just famous, but they look toward the whole world & care & act, like about AIDS issues, and about how teens should act & live.
@ Mads...the challenging thing about having Christ as the influence in our lives is that he wants to be THE influence and he wants to influence every part of our lives, not just certain pieces. and i agree...zach hunter is pretty cool!
@ Luc luc...glad you're enjoying the book, bro. isn't it cool how Zach models exactly what you said...how he is preaching/showing who God is at a younger age. and you can too!
@ Maddie F...i think the last part of your last paragraph is pretty inspiring. i hope that you'll pursue that...on the trip this summer & with your whole life. i believe your generation can be that!
@ David...so how do you think you can start changing your generation's branding? you said you follow others a lot, but i think you could lead others in re-branding your generation if you wanted to...you've got the vision for it.
Hey its Ryan W sorry im way late:(
I think the most influential person in the world is probably the president, he makes such big choices that could change the world, and everybody wants to be president so they can make those big choices to. Other influential people in the world are sports athletes because everybody looks up to them because they have money and they get whatever they want.
Some of my biggest influences are my parents, teachers, and pastors. My parents are influential to me because they always want me to be the best I can be, and they are always there for me when I nead their help. Teachers are influential to me because they always seem like really good strong people, and their always pushung kids to do their best.
My youth partors are good influences also because they are people of God, and they try to always do the right thing also.
Other people veiw our generation as "selfish" as zach said, they feel were here to do want we want and to annoy people. they also feel that our generation is a bunch of trouble makers, and that we do nothing right.
I wish our generation would be branded as kind and loving towars others, because we are. And just because were kids doesnt mean we can't make an impact on the world, we are the lagest impact on the world if we work together.
Ryan Wandling
Ok sorry this is like a month late but Ikeep forgetting to do this one=/
Some of the most influential people in the world for would have to be people living in poverty. They change the way that I do everyday things at my house. Like whether its leaving the water run as I'm brushing your teeth, or remembering to turn off my bedroom light as I'm leaving my room. They make me realize how lucky I am to be living in the house I live in and haveing the family anf friends that I do. I think that if everyboby in the world just took second to take a look at hoe lucky they really are ad to apprechiate the important things. I mean some people look at it as a competition to see who has the bigger T.V. or who's house is bigger? There are so many people around the world that have no intertainment but they're still living they're lives day by day. Ok and I'll admit that I'm a major tree hugger and want to conserve energy and recycle my papers and cans. But the way that I look at it is that many people can't just reach over and turn their light switch off or fill their cup of water from the kitchen sink.
Who do you think is the most influential person in the world? Who are some of your biggest influences? What makes someone influential?
How do others view your generation? How do you wish your generation were branded?
I think there are two categories for most influential person in the world. First off, I believe Bill Gates is the most indirectly influential person in the world. He founded Microsoft, which is the most common operating system of most computers. Computers give access to the Internet, which is the easiest ways to share ideas. I think the most directly influential person is George W. Bush because he is the president of a world power. Also the USA is a representative Democracy, which means, in essence, he represents all of us. Some of my biggest influences are my parents and god.
I think a lot of people think our generation is greedy and self centered, but I disagree. I would like us to be remembered for actually doing something about the issues in the world.
yeah ,yeah I know it's late...my bad...sorry.
