Hey everyone...
Great thoughts on community. I'm looking forward to the community that we'll experience together this weekend and start to develop as a team through our all-nighter together. Speaking of which, if you have to come late or leave early or can't make it for some reason make sure that you've emailed me about it. You might have mentioned it on a Sunday or Wednesday, but I really need it in writing. And this weekend should definitely be a priority, because we have so few times together.
It's great to see that so many of you are enjoying the book. This week's chapter is on courage. Here's one of my favorite quotes from this chapter:
"By liberating yourself from fear, you open the door of your mind, allwing the room once occupied by fear to be filled with creativity and passion. And when creativity and passion come in and clean things out, you are able to care about more than yourself and your own fears. And that is a good thing."
I love this thought. I used to be extremely afraid of heights. Totally freaked out. One day I got to thinking "why am I afraid of heights...this is dumb!" So I forced myself to face my fears...at first just a little and then more and more. Now I have a healthy respect of heights (I don't attempt to do stupid things), and I'm able to really enjoy things that would have freaked me out before, like rock climbing. Or help others when they're scared of heights.
Who do you think is courageous? If you know them, ask them how they faced their fears and tell us about it.
You don't need to answer this question here, but what is something you are afraid of? What do you think are the steps you need to take to face that fear?
See you on Friday!

Hey this is Lingy,
Another good chapter. HEY JDH AND/OR ERIC LETS SHOW THESE COMMENTS AT THE OVERNIGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1.The most courageous person I know is David Thum. If you know him you know he is confined to a wheel chair. That hasn't stopped him from enjoying life at all. I'm not sure if this is his fear but he triesthings that would normly involve legs without them. For example he tried karate because his father's a black belt. he did very well without his legs. He's an inspiration to me.
I could go with the obvious answer and say that Jesus is courageous. I mean, he died for everyone on this Earth so we could go to Heaven, knowing full well that some people wouldn't accept that awesome gift. So obviously, he's courageous. But someone else I think is courageous is my grandpa. Maybe some people wouldn't consider this courageous and I wouldn't blame them, because it doesn't really involve someone conquering a fear, but if you knew this man like I did it would be nothing less than courageous in your mind, to. My grandpa had a stroke a few days after I was born, so probably January 26th or 27th of 1994. As I was growing up, I started to grasp exactly what had happened to my Grandpa. You might be thinking, 'oh gee it was a stroke. it happens.'. but my grandpa was someone who loved art. Loved it. He loved nature and his favorite thing to do was travel to the Smokey Mountains and paint the scenery there. He was a fantastic artist. But when he had that stroke, he lost his ability to do things with the left side of his body, and his right side, while it was better than the left, wasn't much better. My dad said that when he got out of the hospital, he went down to his basement [at this point he was still able to function, but not well] to try to continue to paint a picture that he hadn't finished. He was only able to do the right side, because his left side just didn't work. But as he got older, I saw the small amount of ability he had left turn into nothing, and whenever I went to visit I could tell he was sad. And I know for a fact he was sad because he couldn't do the one thing he loved with everything he had in him. He couldn't paint. That’s what I saw in him that was so courageous. He couldn't do the one thing that he loved most, but he never complained about it. I’m a lot like him when it comes to passion for something. I love to write; I do it every day. And I know for a fact that if somehow my creativity or my ability to piece together information for a story were taken away from me, I would complain every second of every day for the rest of my life. Life would almost not be worth living to me. I think maybe he thought that way to; that it wasn't worth it. But he somehow had the courage to stick it out until the end. He lived his life for 13 years without the one thing he imagined himself doing until the day he died. When I think of that, it makes me think of a Casting Crowns song. One of the lyrics is “I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away.” And that’s what he did every day. He never once complained or asked God why. He accepted the small tragedy and went on about his life to the best of his ability.
can't wait to see everyone on Friday! =]
Joel: can you please tell us what we need to bring with us? do we need our book or our Bible or both, etc.? thanks!
idk a lot of courageous people, I mean, I'm sure I do, but of course I can't think of any at the moment. haha. I think my brother is pretty courageous. He does all sorts of things that would freak me out! Like skateboarding. If I tried it, I would die. But he falls, get scrapes and cuts, sometimes they're so gross I can't even look at them. But he still does skateboarding cause it's what he loves to do. He faces his fear of falling flat on his face all the time because he wants to get better at boarding. I've watched him throughout the years and he just keeps getting better and better. I love you Jp =]
hmmm...what am I afraid of. I'm not afraid of animals, of any kind...spiders are nice when they don't catch you be surprise =] I love snakes, and wild animals and whatnot. I'm not afraid of heights (well, to a certain extent.) I am kinda afraid of the dark sometimes...only when I'm alone. Those horror films totally get to me! I'm afraid that Yoko is gonna emerge from the ceiling or something. lol But I'm mostly afraid of the dark when I'm alone..I feel like someones watching me or something. When I'm with other people and it's dark I'm totally fine...cause my friends might get eaten first! heeheehee
I honestly don't know how I can get over my fear of the dark...
I usually just curl up in a ball on the bed under the covers and shut my eyes till I fall asleep or something. But I think it's getting better.
I think I'm a wimp actually...lol
yeah Joel I need to know what to bring!!!
See everyone Friday =]
ps...thank you Luc Luc for mentioning me in your comment =] I felt so special!
See everyone Friday!
peace son

Hey hey!
Ok, so this was my favorite chapter so far. It was so facsinating to learn about Harriet Tubman (aKa Minty). She was such an amazing lady and a true example to us! Ok, courageous people, there's a lot. But I would have to pick my mommy. Many of you might not know this, but about 3 or 4 years ago, my parents went through a divorce. My dad left my mom, and it was one of the hardest thigs i've been through in my life. But even though my mom was having a really, really hard time, she tried her best to still be the best mom that she is now. I bet it was so frightening for her to look into and wonder about the future, but she was mostly optimistic and positive. I love her so much and even though I'm so sad that my parents seperated, seeing my mom's courage was an inspiration to me.
What am I afraid of, well I am a lot of things. Like octapi, creepy houses, and dark basements. But those are kind of just silly things. Truthfully, I am afraid of God. I mean, I love God soooo much, but he has so much stinkin' power! He knows when I'm going to die, where I'm going to college, and my every little thought! His powers frighten me, but I always know that he isn't a giant frankenstein, but a gentle, loving person that I can always depend on no matter what.
Thanks 4 reading, I'll see y'all on Friday. :)

Who do you think is courageous? If you know them, ask them how they faced their fears and tell us about it.
Wow, I honestly don’t know anyone that is courageous. Every one I know is too afraid to face their fears. If I had to choose, it would have to be my cousin Jenna. Jenna is 11 years old and deathly afraid of mannequins. You know, those fake people in malls that wear clothes so they sell better? We call it mannequinaphobia. Sure, it’s not a real person. She knows that. Some how they still manage to scare the crap out of her! Once we walked into this small shop in California and as soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a mannequin. We quickly slipped past but a few seconds later we ran into another one. So, then Jenna started freaking out because she thought that the one at the door moved. I didn‘t believe her. At first I thought she was being ridiculous. I casually looked back at the door. It really had moved! There was no longer a mannequin at the door!! Then we ran to the back of the store. This was the least likely place to find mannequins. Or so we thought. Standing in the very back corner of the store was the mannequin from the entrance. Its face was pointed directly at Jenna. This was bad. All of the sudden some guy walked out of the storage room holding a clip board. He looked at us like we were crazy. Then he turned to the mannequin and stuffed it into the room he walked out of. “Did you put that there?” He muttered, but didn’t wait around for us to answer. That guy walked away before we could say anything. Jenna and I decided it would be best to get out while we could. Dun, dun, dun….
ATTACK OF THE MANNEQUINS! :]
Now Jenna says it was all because of me that she is still alive to tell this tale.
Hey hey hey all!
The most corageous person or people in my opinion are the soldiers in Iraq. Or maybe the men who have fought in previous wars, my Grandpa (who died when I was four) fought in world war 2 and got a purple heart from the war wounds. It takes so much courage for these men or woman to leave their familys and go to fight/kill other soldiers. I also think fire fighters, policemen, and even the president are very corageuos men. Poplicemen and fire fighters risk their live to save/protect others. The president goes through so much crap to become president and then when he becomes president he has to deal with people hating him and sometimes wars, along with the other normal presidential duties. Thats my opinion, hahahaha I make no sense.
This will sound really lame but I'm really scared of mice! I love bugs, heights, and even dark places but I can't stand mice! NO lie I could care less about any of those other things but I hate mice.
ANother creature I hate are clowns. I cried so ahrd when my friend turned on the movie It on tv I saw like 2 sec. of the movie on and off but it scared me so bad. The last time I was at the circus this clown snuck up on me and gave me a heart attack. The next time I see a clown I will punch it in the face hahaha no lie.
Can't wait to see all ya'll tonight!!!!!!!!
-Lil Brummy-
Hey! I am really liking this book.
I don't know any couragous people. At least that I can think of. Most of my friends have a fear by it doesen't run their life.
I am afriad of heights. Not only am i afriad of heights but heights make me sick to my stomach. But I hope one day i will be able to get over my fear of heights.
Heather C.
I think of Lance Armstrong as being courageous. He's not only won many Tour de France races but has had to be courageous with the fight against cancer. I also think my brother Ricky is courageous in that he is planning to be a firefighter and will have to put his life at risk for his occupation. He is graduating this year from two years of learning about firefighting at the career center and will start college this fall for the same thing. He will have to have courage to go into a flaming building but I know he will do it willingly to save a life.
I can't really think of something I'm afraid of other than sickness. I was hospitalized with a serious illness last year and I thank God that I came through in perfect health. But if I would get the same problem again I would have to be hospitalized for a long, long time. The chances of me getting it again are very, very slim but it's still a fear if I think about it.
I think courage is not that someone has no fear. A person that is courageous is definitely afraid but they ignore their fears and do what needs to be done! oops sorry misread the question!!! the most courageous person i know would have to be either my well i'm not sure honestly :(! i am afraid of lions, tigers and bears (come on laugh its hilarious! seriously) but no seriously i am terrified of these animals i don't know why but i am. but even though i fear them i still think they are awesome creatures!!!!! and all big cats are on my top list of fav animals!!!!!!!!
P.S.
Last night and today were awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can't really think of anyone courageous right now, even though i'm sure that there r alot.
One thing i'm scared of is heights. i don't know they just freak me out. one way to face my fear is to get used to heights?
Well I think this was the coolest chapter yet. It's really hard to think of courageous people. But I think my dad is probably the most courageous person I know. He's actually a pretty shy person. He doesn't usually go out of his way to talk to people because he's so quiet. My dad does a good job of facing his fear though. He is one of the leaders at the Chapel's International Student Ministries and he really good at teaching and stuff even though I know he probably struggles with it a lot more than he lets on. He also speaks up on ideas at his work at meetings or whatever. He doesn't just escape in his own little world and not interact just cuz he's scared. He has great courage and has overcome his fears.
I personally am deathly afraid of heights. Like it's not even funny. I get scared not only when I am at high places but also when those around me are. Over the past few years God has finally started helping out with my fear a bit. I've found that I'm not as scared lately. I mean I'm still not comfortable at all with heights, but these days, I'm not quite as terrified as before. Now I know this is just a little fear and it's not that important to life, but God can help us face our fears no matter how trivial and small they are. He craes and knows how we struggle with bravery and insecurity. We just gotta trust him to do his thing in his own time and we have to be willing to accept the help he gives us.
That's my feelinggs on courage guys. By the way, I am soooooo tired I can barely write this. I'm so glad I'm not a homeless person who has to sleep outside in the RAIN!!!! Bye bye.

I don't really know of anyone that is courages, atleast not right now. A couple things I am afraid of are hights and spiders haha. I love roller coasters and stuff but i am always really scared to go on them, but my brother always forces me to go on them and in the end it was worth it. I don't really know why I am afraid of spiders I will always be scared of those things they scare the crap out of me!! okay cya
this is hard to think of the most courageous person right off of the top of my head. but i would have to say that my friend amanda is pretty courageous. she will do anything unless its bad or something. she isn't afraid to go up to a stranger and tell them something and she isn't really afraid of anything.
for me i think the only thing im really afraid of is talking to people. a lot of people know that i don't really talk alot but a love to talk to people that i know really well. so its hard for me to go up to someone and start a conversation. but i really think that if i loosen up then i could really get rid of my fear of talking to people.(im not afraid of people just talking to them). its kind of weird but i actually talk a lot more at school than i do at sunday school.
There are alot of courageous people in the world but one that stands out the most is Zach Hunter. He is really courageous because he wants to stop slavery and he's only like 15. I think someone who stands for their beliefs or want to put an end to something bad has to be courageous. I think Zach is an inspiration for teens everywhere..
I know several couragous people, but the one(s) who stick out the most are probably my parents. They've always been there to support us in things, from baseball, to karate, to working at a day-camp this summer. My dad isn't afraid to share his opinion, but everyone would be afraid if they didn't know how to explain/describe something. I think that if you have an opinion, and you share it freely, that you should be ready to stand your ground if someone questions you. My parents have gotten our famiy through alot, my dad lost his job almost 2 years ago now, but when he came home and told us, he was brave. He knew there was a long road ahead, but he faced it and now he has another job as a Customer Service Technition at a company named CBord. My dad didn't have the chance to finish college, but with the help of our entire family, he went back, knowing that a whole lot of studying, very late nights reading/studying, and many other things would bite into his time. But he faced it, and now has a good job to support his family.
My mom is couragous in many ways. She has taken on many jobs that seem very stressful, and yet she does it with a smile, which inspires me.
Some of my friends are also couragous. One of my friends isn't afraid to try something totally new, for me on the other hand, I'd rather be comfortable knowing that "I've done this before" in other words things I know I can do. I try to experience different things when I can, which is why I'm coming on this ministry trip, (but also to get a better chance to serve others)
Like Joel, I'm afraid of insecure heights, such as roof-tops, trees, ladders, etc, etc. But the other day I was shooting darts with my Nerf gun. I accidentally shot one up onto the roof of my house. "Crap, there goes a perfectly good dart" I thought. But when I told my dad about it, he told me to follow him. As I followed he began getting out a long ladder. He put it against the house and said "Go get it." WHAT?! I probably had the stupidest look on my face. (the year before I had helped re-do our roof, but I only helped with the garage roof, I was to scared to go onto the house roof.) So I slowly began climbing. Before I knew it, I had reached the top! So I threw the dart down, and slowly began climbing down. Facing my fear made it a little bit easier.
I also was creeped out by spiders when I was younger. My mom had to cover the pictures in my text books when I was learning about spiders. The thought of all those eyes, all those legs just gave me the creeps. But now I see a spider, and I think about how kewl it must be to be able to climb on walls, to see things several times, and also that I'm 1,000,000x their size. I didn't exactly face this fear, I don't exactly like them crawling all over me, but I kinda grew out of it.
I don't have any current major fears, kinda tiny ones, you know like falling in a dream and landing, getting to much peanut butter in my milkshake, you know the basic ones, haha. But nothing really sticks out. If I face these fears, (the real ones not the ones i just made up) then they will become tinier and tinier, and maybe eventually not exist!
I don't think my courage will ever be anything like that of Harriet Tubman, or others throughout history, but I do know that if I let myself, my courage will grow everyday!

BTW I have no idea why my name says Jordan, but this is tyler lol

Hey it's Nate G.
This was a neither great chapter in this book and it keep getting better. To answer this question I don't know anybody who is courageous but I had two grandfathers that were in WWII I think that there were courageous even if I didn't know them back then. The reason is because they faced there fear of dieing in the war for there country. That is the one or two people I think is courageous. So lets face are fears and have courage when we help the people in Boston.

Heya, It's Abby!
There are a lot of courageous people. They may not be like superman, who fights villains and always gets the girl. No there are many people who do courageous things. People who go to Iraq to help fight in the war. That takes a lot of courage to leave your family to go to a foreign country to help fight for everyone’s freedom. It also takes a lot of courage to share your faith. Sometimes you’re afraid of what people might think of you, so it takes a lot of courage to share.
I think to get rid of fears is to face them. I was terrified of roller coasters [I even cried a few times :( ]
I got over it because my family and friends forced me to ride and after awhile i started to like it.
Even though i was forced i stilled faced it and got over it. My friend made me go on the Dragster and i didn't want to ride it but i told myself it would be over before you know it. So facing your fears help a lot!!!!
[Well ran out of ideas to write so chaos!!!]
Abby :p
who is couragous? I think that my mom is couragous. She works for the health dept. in the newborns/homes division. This measn she has to got see the newborn babies and their moms, usually in really rough neighborhoods. She goes and gives guidance and makes sure that the mother is providing for the baby.Shes so couragous because if theres something wrong in the home she has to call Children Services and they have to come take the baby away.Whoa. I couldn't do that,no way. But she is just making sure that the well being of the child isn't at risk, so yea i would say that counts as couragous.
My greatest fear would have to be flying. I just hate being out of control of a situation, just sitting there waiting to hit a building or crash over water. Gives me shivers just thinkin bout it. I guea i can overcome this by flying more and trusting God more. Hey who knows, maybe the flight to Boston will break my fear.
-M.Swires
This was a pretty beastly chapter. His definition of courage alligned with my defintion of courage. One of my heroes is Dustin Carter. I doubt any of you guys know him, but hes a wrestler who lost his arms and legs as a kid when he contracted a rare blood disease. It took him a while to develop his courage though. Shortly after he lost his legs he became a straight "F" student, had bad relations with his family, and was pretty apathetic. In 8th grade he discovered wrestling, which pulled the pieces together. His dad said he could never do it, and when he tried he got thrown all over the mat. Over the years he trained and worked harder, even with everyone telling him he couldnt do it. By senior year he got second place in state, which was his goal. He also pulled all his grades up to A's.
The only two things im afraid of are satan and my appearance. I hate people talking about me, I hate being the center of attention (unless it's in sports), and idk...it just really bothers me. Im not even gonna go into detail bout satan.
Well yeah...had fun on friday. See ya later.
~Sean S
Ok, first off i want to say this was probably my favorite chapter so far. One of my favorite quotes form this chapter that Zach Hunter states is "It's as though courage multiplies like yeast in dough, allowing you to be even more courageous the next time we are called upon. What this means to me is that when you face your fears for the first time, it allows you to face fears even bigger than that because you have that knowing that you have faced one, why not another.
Some people that appear to be courageous to me are the people living in poverty each day. They have to deal with getting up everyday not knowing what is going to happen next. They don't know if there is going to be enough food to feed them or their family or where they are going to sleep they next day for that matter. These people know that they can take the easy way out and just kill themselves, but they keep living each day by day. Now I'm not saying that none of these people kill themselves because some of them probably do, but the ones who stick it through, hoping for something greater to happen the next day are the courageous ones. I mean, I know that i could never do that. I could barely sleep outside in the rain for one night on Friday against people living in poverty doing it everyday. It really just amazes how strong and courageous these people are, and not a lot of people who have that problem even realize it.
I think jesus is veryy courageous! he died for everybody in this world! and some ppl dont even believe their is a god, and dont believe in jesus, but jesus STILL died and gave up his life just to save us. we are nasty sinners and deserve to go to hell but god has saved us from that because he had so much courage and love for us!
i am really really scared of the dark..haha
but everytime im in the dark all i think of is that jesus is there with me and he will get me through it! and it makes me feel sooo much better knowing someone is there and will always be there to help me get thtough things! =]
hey there!!
mk so i thought hard about this question, and well i have to say my dad is one of the most courageous people i know. when he lost his job about 2 years ago to foreign trade, it was really hard for him. But amidst the hard times, it was really cool to see him do alot, and i mean TONS of little odds and ends jobs and things in order to try and provide for our family. He was always staying busy and trying to find more things to do that would help pay for our needs. so yea, i just think he is prety courageous in the fact that he didnt just give up when he lost his job. Instead, he kept busy and knew and trusted that GOd was going to make it all ok and provide him with jobs to do, and provide for our needs.and it really has been amazing to see how GOd has totally provided for us in so many ways. so yea, thats why i think my dad is courageous, i love my dad!

Howdy! It's Hayden again!!
Courageous people... hmm. Someone I know who's courageous is probably my dad. First off he recently changed his career. I mean a drastic change. He used to be a doctor-type person, and now he sells fake turf. Pretty drastic, huh. The reason he did this was at his old job, let's just say people just weren't very honest and backstabbing type of people. He just couldn't take it anymore. He's a pretty nice guy and he just didn't wanna get sucked into those kinda things. On the other hand. my Uncle Dale owns a turf company, Foreverlawn. After long months of praying ang thinking, my father decided to leave Medtronic and join my uncle. He put his family on the line and his trust in God. Luckily everything is going good, and we're better than ever.
I am scared of:
Heights
Scary Movies
Eric (j/k)
and the loss of my family
Yah I'm a scaredy cat. :)
Peace out!!
hay everyone yea its me ASHTON!!! ummm let me see the most courageious person i kno would have to be well i dont really kno to be honest. i guess my mom i mean she took me and lewis in to be homeschoold without really knowing what she is doing and then sent us back to school last year because she started to work again and she does all this ANGLEMEN SYNDROM stuff for my lil sis maddy and travels all the time for work so in away is is because she does all this stuff and puts her self aside to help us or do stuff for work. she started work not really what to expect and knowing that it would be hard but faced the fact and did it anyway. were all still getting used to it (even tho its been two years) but she takes us traveling with her sometimes (lewis is goin to africa and i get to go africa or china idk yet) so im my mind she is very courageious.
WOW somethings i'm scared of well i'm scared of GOLUM from lord of the rings but thats just like a lil kid fear. i'm really scared people wont like me for who i am and i wont be excepted. i mean like all the people who kno me i mean most people kno me and i'm friends with like everyone. and i mean like you kno i'm a pretty weird person who dont care wat ppl think bout me.. well i care in a sence like they wont except me for who i am. i mean like i act diffrently around my friends at school not in a bad way but like i'm not as ougoin. then at church well i'm bout as outgoin as you can get. lol.. i do that because i dont think i will be excepted at school.
what i can do to fix that is just push that thought aside and be myself. i love being myslef at church and i feel awckword at church.. i need to just be my slef and i plan on workin on that next year as a fresmen FRESSY!!! LOL
so thats what i'm goin to do bout my fears.
I CANT WAIT FOR BOSTON!!!!
HAYY BAYY BAYY!!!
Wazzup my peeps?
I can't really think of anyone that's courageous right now. I agree with what Josh said about David Thum. He's in a wheelchair, but that doesn't make him stop enjoying life. I don't know if I would be able to do that. Probably not. I'm not sure if I have any fears. I'm not scared of dying, because I know I'm going to a much better place. I always remember that God is with me so that stops me from fearing anything.
I had a great time at the sleepover, and I can't wait to see ya'll again.
Love everyone!
-Jacob A.
I think that any soldier in our Armed Forces are very courageous. I mean they put their life on the line for us very day just so that we may live free lifes in the US. They are constantly being shot at or having bombs dropped around them. I could never be in the Army. I would like to go into the Air Force, National Guard, or the Coast Guard to protect our country. I give so much thanks to all the members of the Armed Forces and pray that they will all return home as soon as possible. Sam H. P.S. the overnighter was awesome!!!!!!!!
Well, it seems like every time I blog here I think of a little joke to myself and it comes out as the right answer.
(background info: our small group leader today said that he gets annoyed how the answer to everything everyone says at church is either jesus, the bible, or God.)
anyway, so I thought jesus. furst of all, he chose to die on the cross. he knew the scriptures, and knew there were prophecies declaring his death. second, he knew what a cross was. he wasn't stupid. he knew of the pain that he would have to suffer, even praying to God asking if there was any other way. he easily could have denied his....umm....saviorship? to anyone who asked. but no, he kept on keepin' on. that's gotta be one hardcore guy.
either that, or I know of a guy who had all his limbs amputated and is still a pro wrestler.
CHUCK NORRIS!!!!!!
First of all, I think Jesus is courageous. He died for everyones sins so they could go to heaven.
Also, I think the people fighting in the war right now are courageous. Whatever force they are serving in, they are putting their lives at risk. That takes a lot of courage to know, you may be leaving your family behind to go fight for our country. Also, I think the families of the people in the war are courageous. They have to live everyday without their loved ones who are fighting. The fact that they may not return home, is a very scary thought. That takes a lot of strenght and courage.
-Hailee
hmm... Courageous person i know... that it a toughy... hmm courageous person... i know i'm not that courageous of a person... of course Jesus died and did all of that painful stuff for ME... that's courageous... i think that Joel is a courageous person! cuz he got over his fear of heights! I think that missionaries are very courageous to go against nations and people and risk their lives to save other people eternally!
I am not afraid of that much really, death is by far the biggest fear for me, or separation, my death i'm not so worried about, since i know i am a Christian and headed for Heaven, but i am afraid that my family or friends might die without being a Christian... i am also afraid of a situation where i could have witnessed to someone who really needed it, but i backed off, and they never find Jesus :(. i could probably try to reassure my friends and families faiths. so that i can be sure about their faith, and i could try to never pass an opportunity to witness to someone.
Thanks for the book Joel! I love this chapter, and the rest of the book! The overnighter was awesome!!! what was the name of that Indian food again? I want to get some more! haha it was good. I cant wait to see you all again! Nice answers for the questions too!
Good bye
Sorry I am late!
I had no time to blog this week!
I think that one of the most courageous people I know is Harriet Tubman! She escaped slavery then went back down south risked her freedom just to help others.
Another corageous person i know is my dad. He owns his own buisness. He also has 3 kids. He goes to work everyday and sweats and works his but off every day. When buisness gets bad he sacrafices his on fun for my families well being.

Sorry I'm LATE!!! :[[
The courageous person I know is probably my mom. Like she been through so much and i really don't think anyone else could have gotten through it sometimes. But even she knows she'd have never made it to today with out God's help. Even when she gets mad at God she knows it'll work out in the end and that there a reason behind it. She has such an incredible faith even when all things are going wrong in her life, she still believes, she not perfect and gets mad at God sometimes for letting stuff happens. But in the end she knows it happened for reason and because of hard times she grown closer to him. She'd never go back because of that. I really don't know how she wakes up everyday and just lives sometimes. If i were in her shoes I'd given up a long time ago.
well, the obvious answer would be that Jesus was extremely courageous by dying on the cross for all of us, but some other people i think is courageous are my parents, because my dad is struggling with a messed up job that took away a tone of stuff, and my mom is always there to help each of my siblings out. the soldiers over in iraq are crazy courageous b/c they have to wake up every day and possibly risk their lives fighting for our country.

sorry its late, i had a busy week :(
Sorry I’m late I had a very busy week. I think of my mom as courageous. When she was a little kid to 17 she went through a lot of abuse and she had to keep quite about it or her dad would have hurt her and her mom. So when she was 17 she left home to get away from the abuse. Just before she turned 18 her mom died of cancer and she decided to tell her family about the abuse. It caused a lot of fighting in the family and she decided to leave her family and be on her own.
Sorry Im late its been a hard week
A courageous person that I know is a friend who leads a bible study at school. He has amazing boldness, courage, and faith in God. His life verse is even Joshua 1:9, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." And I think he has such amazing courage because of the last part in that verse, "...for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." And if God is with us wherever we go, it's kind of like we have God backing us up with his courage, which is incomparable with the problems that we face.

Sorry this is really late. But I thought this chapter was the most interesting so far. I think there's a lot of courageous people, but one of the most courageous is my mom. A while ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She had to go through everything like chemotherapy and radiation. Throughout the whole thing she stayed strong and I hardly ever heard her complain. She never gave up even when she was going through the worst stuff. So yea, I think she is pretty courageous for pushing through and not giving up and now she is cancer-free!
Some things that I am afraid of are scary movies and dumb stuff like that. I really don't know how to get over that fear so for now I just don't watch them.

Hey whats uppp its RYan sorry im late again:((
I think that Zach hunter is an uberly courageous guy because he only 15 and he wants to end slavery everywhere!!
I feel you have to be courageous if you want to put an end to something large like slavery.
Also I think Zach has a big influence on kids too!!

haha its tonyaa:]]]
ok um...i dont really think i know that many courageous people. i mean prolly but idk. haha. But the first thing ithought when i thought of courageous people was peoples in the military. i mean im sure theys afraid of fighting, but they face thier fears to help the country.
and i have pretty much three fears, and theys kinda funny actually :P im scared to death of the dark, and i really dk how to not be. i even have christmas lights in my room all year cuz i cant sleep without light, cuz iget scaredd:[[ another thing im afraid of is drving. idk why, but i tried once, just trying toback out of the driveway, and i cried. its sooo scary. and the third thing im scared of is the cold. like when i get really cold, i cry, haha im a baby i know. lol. and like i have no clueee how to not be afaid of all that stuff. like i try, but then i get scared again :[[[
oh my golly im a terrible person....my comment is soooo late!! sorry Joel!
Well then..a courageous person....tis be a toughin...i think that a courageous person would have to be every Christian. what i mean is that everyday there are chances for us to reveal God's presence and sometimes that happens and sometimes is doesnt but the times that it does, its definately a scary thing. cuz maybe you think that somebody will think you are weird, like me, or they don't want to be your friend because you follow God but really its their loss that they arent your friend. ok anyways..things that i am afraid of..well one thing is bee's...those things scare the dookie out of me...and if you guys try to sick a bee on me, i will be forced to nibble on all of your toes on your left foot! SO BACK OFFFFFF!!!!
Hmm the most courageous people I know are probably the people who stand up for what they believe in, even though it's not what everybody else is doing. These people have to face ridicule everyday, just because tehy're different. Some of these people have to go through life friendless. Being a person who used to have 0 friends, being friendless is one of the worst, scariest feeling in the world.
So these people deserve props for living out everyday :)
The things I'm mostly scared of are spiders and snakes. I start bawling whenever I see them. Haha.
But my biggest fear in the world is getting lost in the city; every big city I've been to, I've gotten lost in some way. Haha for example, when my class went to Washington DC, my friend haley and I misunderstood directions and thought we were allowed to wonder around the city wherever we wanted. Being the patriotic nuts that we are, we took off and ran to the national archives, and we were supposed to meet our class at the hard rock cafe, which was on the other side of the city! so we got a map but couldn't understand it because we're both bad with directions! we started running when we realized we had to get back to our class, and by the grace of God, we somehow mamged to find the hard rock..just by running down random streets!
But to get back on track, I hate being lost; it gives me a sense of feeling super volnerable.
I'll probably never get over my fear of being lost. The only thing i can think of doing is becoming a cartographer so i can read maps :)

Heyy its desi sorry i am sooooo late on this.....
Ah darnet i g2g... but just know i am getting to it... i couldnt be on the comp. for a while so thats y i missed a bunch sorry
Sorry this is late.
I think people that our courageous are people who help defend our country or make our life better. Some of these people include soldiers, firefighters, cops,f.b.i., and others. All these people go out and try to make our lives easier.
One thing I guess I'm affraid of is heights. Ever since i was little i was affraid to climb ladders.
~Brandon S.
like somone said already being courageous isnt being fearless, its facing your fears in the midst of being afraid. to me being courageous is a test, i wanna prove that im not scared. for instance do you think david was scared when he face goliath? i bet he was terrified. but being courageous isnt about being fearless. someone who strikes me as courageous is my dad. he basically threw away his firefighter career to go into inner city ministry, i live in the kind of neghbor hood that we willl be visiting. he doesnt get payed for his job, and we have been living there for 12 years. my dad will always stop and pray for those who are on drugs, and if he sees a fight he will always stop it. when he sees wrong he trys to stop it. My dad is the most courageous person i know.
now things im afraid of.
well im afraid of:
getting old
getting paralized
getting permanet brain damage
not being good enough
to drive
not being able to talk or see
not being able to breath.
killing someone
im afraid of being jumped.

sorry bout being late
it's elijah,
my biggest fear is heights. i'm afraid of falling, especially when i look down. this spring i helped my uncle put a new roof on our garage and i was kinda scared about slipping and falling. i just had to deal with it and the second day i was just walking around on top of the roof, jumping off into a dump truck, and having fun.
also when we went rock climbing i was climbing to the top and at one point i was scared to go higher. s someone kept telling me to go higher and it gave me the courage to do it.
another thing i am kinda afraid of is riding my bike on the street. i am sometimes afraid some idiot would drive crazy and hit me. i am afraid because my uncle was killed when riding his bike in a 200 mile bike ride. i would like to ride in stuff like he did, but i still get nervous when cars come up behind me.
signing off, elijah
I think courageous people are people who are afraid of things but do it anyway. Corageous people are afraid of stuff but they face thier fears.
I can imagine how afraid Harriet Tubman was to go back to help free the other slaves but she did it anyway and that's what made her courageous. All the other qualities that Zach talks about in the book will take courage to do before they can be done.
Daniel A.
My brother has a book that has about 50 stories of different people and how they get rescued from literally a life-or-death situation. I think that all the rescuers whether they survived or not are courageous. In all of the stories the rescuers were people who just so happened to be in the right place at the right time to save the person in trouble. They weren't expecting to save anybody and in most acses didn't know they had it in them to do so.
sorry this is really late.
i think the most courages people are the people that are paralized or disabled. these people stand out to me because they have such a strong will to live and most of them cant use their arms or legs for the rest of their lives, but that dosen't stop them from making a difference in this world.if i was paralized or disabled i dont think i would be able to do the things they are able to.
some of the things i guess im scared of are not being accepted and just not being good enough.
David L.
hmmm.... i had a hard time trying to think of a response to this prompt. i think my dad is courageous because when he graduated from high school, he enrolled in the military and was moved out to washington state by himself when he was just 18 (as if joining the air force isnt scary enough!). Eventually, my mom and dad got married and my mom and i moved out there with him, but thats beside the point. I remember when i was little, and my dad would go overseas alot for 4 months at a time, working for the air force. while he was away, he faced many difficulties and things that are too hard for me to even comprehend. one time, the plane he was repairing caught fire, and my dad ran in to save her, and she got out uninjured, except for a couple minor burns. i think this was a very courageous thing to do, because being faced with a fire, my immediate instinct would be to run away and get as far as i can, not to run back in and check to see if anyones still in there.
*Desi*
one of the most courageous person i know is Jesus.because hes the one who used all his courage to die for us even though i know he truly didnt want to but he did it for us.
thats true courage and i admire it.
Im extremely afraid of dying.
I have a lot of goals for life and im scared i wont be able to finish them all before i pass.
Its so dissapointing to think that once your gone you can't be around the people you love anymore.but then again,i know that when i die its because God wanted me to come home to him at that time and i know i am truly off to a better place.
