What's the biggest sacrifice you've ever seen someone make?
Any other thoughts on sacrifice?

I think it means that when we do something for others dont do it to show off or to be all like "ooo im so nice and good im helping out others" or just to feel like your a great person but instead do it out of humbleness and because you care about the person your helping. I think the biggest sacrifice I've ever seen someone make is when my mom was helping some one so much and telling her about god and when this person started acting dramatic and stopped being friends with my mom for complicated reasons, when my mom had worked so hard to show God to her. I think making sacrifices can sometimes be one of the hardest things you'll ever do.
Phil. 2:3 is kinda self-explanatory. It means that we shouln't do anything to get something in return, whether it be glory for ourselves or something else. Instead, we should consider others better than ourselves, going out of our way to help them. The biggest sacrifice I've ever seen someone make would have to be Jesus dieing for me, even though I didn't really SEE it. I know its a really common example, but think about it. He was blameless, perfect. I am a sinner. He suffered and died for me, and I certainly didn't deserve it. Without sacrifice, none of us could get to heaven to spend eternity with the Creator.
sacrificing is really crucial in our Christian walk. like, just being Christians alone we're sacrificing SO much just because we want to honor God. when people make sacrifices for me personally, it really shows me how much they care.
that verse means to me to do things because you want to and not because you have to. and also that you should want to do things for others. the biggest sacrifice i've ever seen anyone take is when my mom used most of her money saved up to pay off the house so we wouldnt have to move out of the school districs when my parents got divorced. -Liz
I think that it means that we shouldn't think of ourselves as the best but we should do things for others and do things that would please God. The biggest sacrafice that i have seen would probably be that all of the time my mom does things for me and my sister and she barely does stuff for herself. Since my parents are divoreced it is a lot harder for her and she has to pay a lot more than my dad does and she still does sooooo much for me and Kelly. I love her sooo much!!! Katie B.
I think Phil. 2:3 means that you need to put others before yourself, and not always think about yourself but instead help others with their needs. I would have to agree with Bethany. Jesus died for everyone even though a lot of people don't even believe in Him! I would say that is a big sacrifice! That would be hard for me to do, because I would know that alot of people would ignore my gift of love! After thinking a lot about what Jesus did for me, I notice how selfish I really am. I could give so much more sacrifice to to others and God! ~Sydney
I think the verse means that we shouldn't look down on others no matter what...we should put/think of others before ourselves..treat them well..the only sacrifice i can think of right now that i saw was, in Mexico we were at a building site and a few of the mexican girls were talking to my sis and i, and it was getting windy and cold so me sister took her sweatshirt off and gave it to one of the mexican girls to wear.. Phil. 2:3 means that you do everything selflessly. You dont do it to get attention and praise, but for the good of someone else. The biggest sacrifice I've ever seen someone make is pretty much my mom every day. She puts up with so much, I couldnt even begin to put it all in here.
A side note: My dad ran in the Boston marathon last year, and I actually saw the father and son, dick and rick hoyt, team hoyt running. it was amazing! and everyone started cheering! =]
I think that Philippians 2:3 means that instead of putting ourselves higher than other people we should put other people higher than ourselves. The biggest sacrifice I have ever seen someone make is probably my Mom. My Mom sacrifices her own time so that I can do something instead. My Mother sacrifices things that she would like to do so that the rest of the family could do something instead. My other thought on sacrifice is probably the meaning of the word. To some people when you talk about sacrificing things for somebody else they automaticly think that means that they should go into their closet and give everything in there to someone who needs it more than they do (don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that)but I think that it means that you could also sacrifice small things that sometimes you don't think about until you have to go without like...maybe sacrificing the time you are on the computer to maybe helping out your Mom or Dad so that they can have some time off to do some of the things they would like to do. I know that sacrificing time on the computer so that you can help your parents doesn't seem like a big deal but think about it how many things do your parents give up so that you can do something? It is really a big deal to your parents by doing something like that so that they can do something. Dawn L.
I think that it means We should do everything in the thought that we are doing it for others. We should serve someone just because we know that we are getting a reward when it is all over. The biggest sacrifice i have seen someone make is when my brothers decided to not go on a trip to Florida with there friends because of how they were talking about someone. It really surprised me when i heard why they had decided to not go. Like Bethany said the biggest sacrifice ever would have to be Jesus dieing for us.
I think it means not to be self centered and do things for others, to be humble and not do things just for the credit or looking good in front of others.
I think the biggest sacrafice ive ever seen was my step dad he has put up with so much and still is, lets just say he is VERY orderly and were .... not ha ha i cant even begin to describe what its like for him.
I think it means to always thinking about the needs of others. I agree with everyone that don't do things for praise or for attention, don't show off when you do something. Do things for other people as Chist would, not because you have to or are being force to do so. I agree that the biggest sacrifice I've ever seen has been from my parents. They do everything for my sisters and me. They give up so much time...they are awesome!!
I guess I don't really like the word sacrifice...as Christians, I think we should look at sacrifice as being Christ-like.
i like to pick and choose when i use capital letters. i do middle school youth pastor sorts of things at First Friends, and am also their Instigator of Justice (the job title came with a sweet super hero cape, so i had to say yes). in my free time i give leadership to a small group ministry related to sexuality known as six19 and am an Associate Staff member with the CCO. i grew up in Canton, Ohio and live in a house there where i try to think about what it means to be a good neighbor. i hang out with students at Malone College (the college from whence i graduated), trying to help them think about living lives without compartments. I worked at Camp Gideon for 10 years. i miss the sunsets (among a myriad of other things). i enjoy discussing the emerging church, Quaker theology, HIV/AIDS issues, and the intersection of culture and Christ followers. i love the outdoors, get a kick out of leading worship, and half-heartedly pursue long-distance running.
