Endurance

What was the one thing about this chapter that most stuck out to you?

For me it was:

"I think it's really cool that God chooses to use us to alleviate suffering. God hears the cries of the oppressed. If we open our hearts, we can be the answer to their cries for relief and hope, so their enduring will not be in vain."

Take a moment to read Proverbs 31:8-9, and don't forget to answer the questions in the book.

What stuck ut to me most was:
"We should all be thankful for how much we have been given. We can be obsessed with comparing ourselves with others-whethor its to brag about how much better we are than 'them' or to be jealous of what someone else has that we dont."
I know a few people that can act like that at times

The thing that stuck out the most to me was:
"We shouldn't complain about every little thing that doesn't go our way. Or the petty things that bug us about others. If your looks or clothes bother you, pray God would make you thankful you have clothes to wear."
I really want to show this to some of the people in my school!

What stuck out to me the most in this chapter was:
"Have you ever had a bad day? Most of us think we have. You might feel like you're having a bad day because friends are gossiping about you or something happened in English class. Or maybe it's when your big game gets cancelled because of rain, or you get a bad grade in Science and are told you can't play Xbox. But that's not a bad day." [Zach goes on to explain a day in the life of a slave and how they are the ones who have a right to complain, not us.] It made me think how good we really do have it here. A bad day in my life is nothing compared to a normal day in other people's lives (especially slaves and people in poverty).

What stuck out to me the most was the same as what Bethany said. The things that he described as a "bad day" are the exact things I complain about. Those are the things that I classify as a bad day in my life. That part really stuck out to me because I never thought about what a true "bad day" was. What the slave have to endure is far much worse than anything I ever go through.

This made me think that we do have it good, we all do go through bad times but others can go throug worse, so we shoulld be thankfull for all we have.

I think the story about David Ngure stuck with me the most. I liked how he talks about his experience and instead of hate God, thanking him for his amputation. It really stuck that someone that had been tortured and tormented could still love God and thank him for their suffering.

"a man who was willing to endure suffering because he believed God loved him"
that really stuck out to me that while he was going through sooo much suffering he knew God had a plan for him. God used his story to reach out to others so they can trust in him in time of need.

it seems like white people have been mean to non-white people for a long time (black people [slavery], native americans [trail of tears, etc], all the homeless people in the movie amazing grace [actually I think they might have been white too]). here we have a black man who broke all kinds of records and did all kinds of things for the first time and we still thought blacks were inferior. when will we learn?

the part that stuck out the most to me was the same as Bethany's. It made me feel like i have a really great life and i shouldn't complain about some of the things that i do complain about. the slaves don't have a choice to do what they are forced to do and what our parents tell us to do isn't even a little bit as bad as what the slaves have to do. also if we do something wrong we might not be able to go anywhere for a while or we might get something taken away but we wouldn't get whipped for doing something wrong.

what stuck out to e is that something i would think of as a bad day is really not even in comparison to something that others have gone through or go through. Like Bethany said, not getting play your x box we think is something to ruin our day, but others wish that that is all that they had to go through.

Something that stuck out to me was "If your looks or your clothes bother you, pray God would make you thankful you have clothes to wear." I dont think i have ever thought of praying to ask God to help me be thankful for something. Also most of us, I know I do a lot, complain about our clothes and stuff but we are so blessed that we can even have more than one outfit. -Kalie H.

i know this may sound cheese but i think that that the facts stuck because it just amazes me how much money is put out into this stuff. like 50 billion dollars: U.S. government budget for efforts against human trafficking.

so many people disrespect black people and its not cool because theres nothing wrong with skin color. whoever came up with skin color being a problem in society a long time ago. it doesnt make any sense their just like us and so are the other ethnic groups such as indians, orientals, and much more. Also, we should be thankful for what we have because theres kids in the third world countries who only dream of having what we have.

i think its crazy that it took so long for most people to really truely recognize how great jesse owens' records were and everything he did in the olympics. the whole segregation and racist thing is wrong. and it still goes on today. i think that stuck out the most to me because most people think its over and its not. and the fact that he was african american really means that he had to overcome obstacles.

What popped out at me was-
"We can become obsessed with comparing ourselves with others-whether it's to brag about how much better we are than "them" or to be jealous of what someone else has that we don't. Instead, why don't we try comparing ourselves with people like modern-day slaves and the oppressed? We'll probably find we have it pretty good in comparison. Thankfully, most of us will never have to know the kind of suffering and harkship slaves endure every day."
A lot of us compare ourselves to other people like in our school even though we are so much more fortunate then most people. We need to be thankful for how blessed we are and instead of comparing ourselves to others help those in need.

we really take for granted how good we have it here. alot of times we'll complain because 'its too hot', or because 'we're hungry'. at least we HAVE food and HAVE air conditioning. theres people all over the world starving, living on the ground dying...and we complain about stupid things like that...that just shows how spoiled we really are here.

The one thing the most stuck out to me in this chapter was the section on David Ngure. I thought that it was so cool how the guy lost his hand and part of his arm and then he was arrested for something that he didn't even do and that he could serve God with such an open heart instead of with a cold heart toward God for losing his hand and part of his arm and for being arrested for something that he didn't even do.
