Zach does a really good job in this chapter of presenting leadership in a way that everyone can participate in. A lot of times when we think of leaders, we think you have to be talkative and enjoy being up front and the center of attention, but really you can lead no matter what your personality it. It's just how you lead that might be different. Check out the Helen Keller quote at the beginning of the chapter...it's pretty cool!
One way to learn how to be a good leader is to look at people you like to follow. Think about someone you admire as a good leader. What makes them such a good leader? How can you reflect their leadership in your life?
Don't forget to read & answer Zach's questions at the end of the chapter. He's got some great ones!

the person i see as a good leader makes them like that because they know how to take cherge when needed and sometimes its so suttle i dont even realize it, thats what i like about her, is more like shes helping me then taking charge of me. I could try to use this on the misson trip and in my everyday life. mission trip- the vbs and other things we may be involved in. everyday life - in school and at home
The people I admire as good leaders are the people who do not care about what people think of them when they do different things like standing up for and being kind to "unpopular" people. These great leaders encourage me to stand up for people too, and lately I have been trying to do that!

The person that i think of as a good leader is a good leader because he doesn't care what other people think. Know matter what other people might say he continues to do what he does to influence us is the best possible way. another reason that he is a good leader is that when somebody is hurt or needs help he not only shows concern, but he acts on it. He is also trustworthy, if a leader is not trustworthy then it would be almost impossible for any to be influenced by him or follow him. And if nobody follow him then he is not a leader. A way that i can reflect that kind of leadership in my life is by showing all of these qualities in school, church, at home or wherever i go. I just cant be afraid to speak out for wat i believe in.

i don't know who i would say is a great leader and here's the reason why - the people i think of as leaders lead people who aren't standing up against them. for instance my dad of knute larson are good leaders with good beliefs, but does anyone really reject what they say if they don't like it?? so, i thought, is there anyone at school who stands up for what they believe in when they are being challenged by others? there are kids who stand up for what they believe in, but they don't object when others act against that. i can't think of anybody who truly is a good leader (although when i was in second grade i think i could. i seems like there was more standing-up-for-what-you-believe-in-idge back then than there is now).
that comment was sopposed to say my dad OR knute larson
I see my teachers as leaders because they show us how we should prepare ourselves for the rest of our lives and they teach us what we need to know. I also admire those who know how to take control of a situation when needed and that they know what to do and how to go about it and dont just make it up as they go (unless they really have to).
Someone I see as a great leader is one of my teachers at school. She always has time to listen to people's problems and she's very trustworthy. When a student has an opinion about something, she always considers it, no matter who the student is or what they believe. Everyone seems to love this teacher/leader because she takes a genuine interest in their lives. To be a good leader, I should listen to everyone's opinions and show that I care about their concerns. That way, I will gain their respect and be able to help them.
I think that good leaders are people who are not afraid to do things. People who are not afraid to go and speak to a bunch of people. I think that everyone could be a great leader except that there is one problem. People are afraid to be leaders. They are afraid that if they do take leadership nobody will follow them or people will laugh at them when they make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes even really great leaders. I think that if we got past that fear that we all could be great leaders in something. The people in my life that are great leaders are my Mom who is not afraid to be a leader. My brother who being 17 going on 18 has a mind of his own and isn't afraid to be a leader. My Dad is like myself he doesn't want to call attention to himself but that does not make him a bad leader it just makes him a silent leader. My sister is not afraid of what other people think of her so that makes her a leader also. And last the Jr. High leaders. They always give great advice and are always there when I need to talk to them. Jr. High leaders to me are really great leaders.
I will end my comment now because it is really long and I will see everybody Sunday.

I like what Dawn said about people being afraid to lead cuz they're afraid no one will follow, or they will make mistakes. It's very true. Important leaders are always being blamed for stuff whether it's their fault or not (like the President). It can definately be hard to be a leader, but you can make a huge difference (with God's help of course!)Ok im done now....c yall at the next meeting!
This may seem a little bit obvious but heres what i think of when i think of the word 'leader'. If you're someone that people look up to...someone with integrity...someone that isnt afraid to worship Christ with everything they've got.. even if others might think we're acting like a total moron...you're a leader. When i see people just kinda following in the popular peoples footsteps...trying to be like them just cuz THEY wanna be popular, that kinda annoys me. But when i see someone that doesnt care what other people think...they're happy with who they are....thats the person i look up to. thats the person i consider a leader.

My teachers are good leaders because they try to connect with the students and so we want to follow after their lead more. On the missions trip i can try to connect with the people that we will be working with and that will probably make me be a better leader.

I think a goog leader is someone who is confident about what they do and who listens to what the follwers have to say. Good leaders are hard to come by because the leaders we see at places like school aren't confident about what they like to do and instead do what others want them to do. The leaders I admire do what means the most to only them and not others. It just so happens that people like that in a leader an therefore are followed. By using this idea in my life I can inspire other people to follow thier own dreams and not the dreams someone may choose for them.
DJ Coblentz :-D
What I admire in a leader is their ability to lead in a productive way. Knowing what the people want and willing to work for whatever it is. In a perfect world, everyone will want the same thing and they will work for it. But it isn't a perfect world, so that leader will do the best they can. So anyone that shows that quality and works hard I can respect as a leader.
a person who is a great role-model and leader in my life is my choir and ensemble director or teacher at my schoo, mrs. j. she wouldnt ever have to say much to show me that she is a leader, although she does, but the way she carries herself and her actions show me that she is a leader. i want to follow what she does because a ton of people look up to her and she is a great christian and she trys in every way to relate to you and is just an amazing person.
also a reminder guys that although we dont like when people follow someone else because that person is popular, the popular person still is a leader. but we have to try and be a leader for a different cause.
and i like michaels "someone with integrity"
Someone I admire as a leader is my piano teacher. Even though we mostly talk about piano during my lesson each week, she is so cool. She is a Christian and attends the Green Campus. She is so patient with me and is so willing to take time to help. My sister was playing piano for a wedding a while ago, and and our teacher spent a lot of time with my sister helping her prepare her difficult music. My mom and her talk all the time about people that need to be prayed for. She is so concerned for people with needs. She also is a music teacher at a school. She always tells me about what happened that week during her classes, and she seems like the perfect teacher; she relates to her students and works with them. Like Kiersten said, it isn't necessarily the things she says, but the way she acts.

When i look at a leader that i follow i see someone who has some of the same ideas or thoughts as me. The difference between us thought just may be that the leader has a better way of getting the point across or that people listen to that person more. I can really learn alot from these leaders. Sometimes i'm not very good at getting my point across which is something i can hopefully learn from these leaders.

When I think of a leader, I think of someone who stands out in a crowd. If someone is pressuring someone to do something wrong, the leader is the one lone person who may choose to do what is right. I think that as long as we follow God's instruction for us, he can make us all good leaders. We just have to accept what he wants us to do.
-that last one was from Ben D.-
someone i look up to as a leader is because they are willing to listen to me, they show love to anyone, they handle situations good, show good judgement, they treat everyone the same, and they have confidence to do and say things.. i can reflect their leadership by applying the things they do in me life. Stephanie
I see a good leader as someone who will stand up for something or someone especially when others are just too afraid to. Their personality stands out so you see something in them that makes you want to follow. In my life, I try and set good examples so if someone sees me as a leader, they can follow my christian example that I try and set.

The people I think are good leaders are those who lead thos who don't really want to be lead, and inspire them to do the same. if you can get past that boundery many put up then you must be good. Like people that lead things with young adults. We are so set in our ways and think we know everything that its really hard to get through our egos. To be able to do that inspires me to want to do that when I grow out of my immaturity.
these are some qualities that i liked from the previous postings...
A LEADER IS:
- a role model
- respectable
- someone you can look up to
- a teacher
- someone who doesn't care what people think
- patient
- someone who stands up for their beliefs
- someone who shows love
- someone with good judgement
- an example-setter/role model
- inspiring
great descriptions.

I think a good leader is someone who will stand up for something they believe in and they dont care what anyone else thinks about them. I also think that they need to have the Lord with them, helping them stand up for what they believe in. -Kalie H.
alot of times we are faced with peer pressure and it may be extremely tempting and u might give in but if u stand up and say "no" then ur being a leader.
i think that zach in many ways is a good leader one thing that makes him such a good leader is that he is not affraid to stand for what he beleives and to speak for others i think is just awsome. i think that i could reflect his leadership in my life by getting involved and maybe i could even run for something at school. or be apart of lose change to loosen chains.
A good leater to me is a person that knows that they are a leader and that can take charge and do whats best
Leaders qualities are different depending who the leader is leading. When we are on the mission trip many different types of leadership will be needed. At VBS we will see patience and "bonding". Each leader we see will be a good leader in his or her own way.
